Tree Clearing in East GR?

Does anyone know what is going on with the tree clearing on Reeds Lake Blvd?

No, but I see it going on all over the city at the moment. There are a bunch of huge trees with black rings sprayed around their trunks in the posh bit beneath Franklin (Pontiac Dr/Rd)? They lean across the road creating an avenue. I hope the intention isn't to lose these without good reason.

Yeah the rings could just be for the bugs that have descended upon the area.
