old dump sites

does any one know where the old dump sites are in the city..they are so forgotten about and are very hard to research. im doing a study and paper on the effects of old landfills on soil and water and would love to have some knowlege of where old city dumpsites were..in greenville, spartanburg, greenwood, anderson, etc........

The USGS probably has the information you're looking for. Here is a dataset from 1986 on their site showing landfill locations:

To read the SDTS format you'll need a decoder. You can get information on that here:

Unfortunately I can't give much support since it is a format I'm unfamiliar with, but make sure you're downloading the second format for the data:

http://water.usgs.gov/GIS/dsdl/landfill.sdts.tgz

And of course open it with the reader I posted a link to. I'm surprised there isn't any data on the Internet for this type of thing in a more familiar format. This is the only data I could find on landfill locations in the US.
