The college apparantly want to remove the huge mural and replace the windows and bring the building back to the original design, but a small group (including the mural's designer) want to keep it in place.

I pesonally do not like the mural and think it cheapens the look of the building,  Any other opinions?

Agree!  I drove by the building Saturday and didn't understand the fuss about the mural.

Renovations continue.  Several of the new windows have been installed.  They're meant to look like the original ones did back in the '20s.  Notice the difference between the new windows (third floor) and the ones that are being removed (first floor) in the second picture.

I just found this issue of the SCC Evans Chronicle (PDF), which is from December, but it has a good bit of info about the renovations.

Some highlights: Renovations should be complete July 1, with classes starting in August.  The auditorium chair end-caps will be refurbished, but the seats themselves will be replaced.  The gym will be refurbished (refinish wood floor, add AC, etc).  The original entrances will remain, but the main entrance will be on the Broad Street side (back of building, near parking).  SC Works will occupy 12,000 sq ft on the first floor.  The site will be an arboretum (which helps with the LEED-Silver designation).  There will be over 25 varieties of trees and many different shrubs & ground covers.

Here's another quick update.  The front parking lot and part of the rear lot have been paved.  Landscaping (trees, bushes, mulch) continues to be added around the property.  Streetlights have also been installed.  It looks like the clock has been taken down (presumably to be refurbished).  SCC is having an open house for the downtown campus on August 6.

Just thought I'd post a few more photos from the past few weeks to sort of wrap things up.

There's a lot of landscaping.  After a few years of growth, it should look really good.  The rear entrance plaza (photo 5) has permeable pavers, which is nice.  I didn't know the clock lit up.  That's pretty cool.  Finally, you can see the new signage in the last photo.  There's one at each corner of the property, basically.
