Gaffney schedules bids to build new city hall

By Lynne Powell | Cherokee County Bureau

GAFFNEY -- Contract bids for the new two-story city hall will be opened on Aug. 3 and a pre-bid conference is scheduled for Aug. 26, just two days before a new city councilman and possibly a new mayor are sworn into office.

Mayoral candidates Rebecca Addington and Joey Gault are opposing the hall's construction. Jolly is an outspoken supporter for the project, which is estimated to cost $3.4 million.

Council members have voted to move forward with the city hall building despite outcries from Councilmen Billy Love and Wayne Ramsey, who are running unopposed in the Aug. 10 election.

Administrator James Taylor told council members during their meeting Monday night that city offices will close on July 23 so employees can move to the temporary city hall located at the former A&P building on Granard Street. City offices will reopen on July 26.
