There is an Arcade, it's called Lucky's, and they aren't doing well at all actually. It's where Bar Charlotte used to be. There's also one in NoDa called "Abari".

Wow... had no idea at all. I'm going to check them out or atleast the one uptown asap.

Three of them!? C'mon... you're pulling my leg. Why aren't they more known? Or am I just the one who needs to get out more? Lol

They're all pretty new. Abari just celebrated their 1st year anniversary and is pretty popular. Their focus is pinball machines and more vintage games, late 70's - early 90's. I haven't been to Lucky's but it looks to be a bit more of a focus on physical games like skee ball, table hockey and DDR in addition to pinball and some bigger 2000ish arcade games. I don't think Palmer St. Game Bar is open yet but its close.

Lucky's has DDR? Thank you, that changes everything. In my mind that puts it in another league as the (horrific) Blind Pig.

I was the biggest video game fanatic growing up, and I was pumped for Abari, but after half a dozen attempts I'm always bored in there. I just can't get into these simple games that were made for kids (well, NBA Jam is pretty sweet).

I enjoy the pinball there a lot, but yeah most of the old arcade games are either overly simple or impossibly hard. In any case its a fun bar to hang out at IMO. I'm looking forward to trying the other 2 for some of the more modern light gun and driving games.

I wish this is something Charlotte would get.  Alamo Drafthouse is the best and they really support local craft beers.  Raleigh just got their first location and another one seems to be coming to Asheville at the mall site. https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2018/03/29/alamo-drafthouse-readies-for-raleigh-debut.html?ana=e_ae_set4&s=article_du&ed=2018-03-31&u=oAaDx%2B74FoP4qOJ%2By4AU6dhJPpc&t=1522500035&j=80784581

Locations I think could be good would be South End, NoDa, further down Central from Plaza Midwood like anchoring the old Eastland site.  anyway one of these could revitalize any old shopping center as they are doing in Raleigh.

Isn’t really my wish but some of you guys drive me nuts wanting CLT to have something unique.

AC hotel really stood out in the skyline the other night with bright bright red lights. There are so many colors on our skyline. I say you want something unique.... Expand on it. The city of lights (yes, I know Paris has the age old nick name)... get more structures or what have you have more colored lights. I’m sure you could get creative. It’s unique without being forced. It’s realistic (I don’t think a statue or anything we could make could be iconic especially compared to those others like the St. Louis arch, etc).

Stemming from the fact that Norfolk Southern screwed the Red Line a bit (NC politicians helped as well),  I wish that NS would sell the line north of Uptown to the city or state!

Now that they are open to selling Tracks - I wish we could plan to for Commuter Rail to the exurbs and make the region more connected.

commuter rail to Rock Hill, Gastonia, Monroe, Concord/Kannapolis, Salisbury and Statesville

Do yall remember or even hear when there was a proposed Times Square South proposed in Atlanta....that I don't believe ever happened? Well since Charlotte is, like New York a mega banking city. wouldn't that concept be amazing in Charlotte. A mini times square. Almost like how the ground level by the Epicenter looks. It could add to that area to create this concept.  If you did not  hear about it. Here is the link. http://discoveratlanta.tumblr.com/timessquaresouth

•  And one for the "ring cities":  connect Monroe and Rock Hill, by extending NC 75 from US 521 west, crossing the Catawba River, and connecting to Dave Lyle Blvd. in Rock Hill.  The route would be close to the Catawba Indian Reservation.  Grant the tribe permission to open a casino resort on the banks of the river; property taxes on it could be dedicated to road/bridge construction costs.  Rock Hill becomes Rock Vegas.

That was part of my Outer Outer proposed here in 2015......minus the Catawba Casino, hahahaha.

OK, here are a few wishes, some of which have been mentioned on this thread or elsewhere on the forum.

•  A skyscraper with a two-story arcade.  No, not a pinball arcade; a retail arcade like the Latta Arcade, only bigger.  A 30,000+ square foot footprint, extending through a full bluck (Tryon to College, or Tryon to Church, for example.)  Since big bank lobbies are out of fashion -- or unneeded -- a retail arcade the length of the block.  A grand staircase and escalators to the second floor of retail, which would connect to Overstreet Mall, thus assisting the connectivity between Overstreet Mall and the street.  Then an office tower above it.  More opportunities north of the Square -- the half-block bound by Tryon, 7th, and College, for example.  Take out the building fronting on 7th used as a police station, and relocate it the the other half of the block.

•  Close the Transit Center (the turquoise-roofed bus shed between E 4th and the Spectrum Arena).  Blow it up real good.  Leave the Blue Line station, but move the bus terminal to the new Gateway terminal complex.  Having two transit centers is a mistake.  Tearing down CTC would free up a terrific site for development, and would greatly enhance the site across 4th (currently surface parking) as well.

•  Close the Square, and two blocks of Tryon and Trade in each direction, to vehicular traffic other than transit.  Closing center-city streets must be done with caution, lest the result be a deadening effect (remember Raleigh's Fayetteville Street Mall).  So keep the street closures compact, and along densly devoped streets.  Existing garage entrances and exits (the Marriott and the building formely called Interstate Tower) would pose tough problems.  Trade could function as the primary pedestrian route between the Blue Line and the Gateway Transit Station.

•  New branch of the streetcar line.  Where it turns left at Presby Hospital, start a new branch to the right, and bring back the Myers Park loop of a century ago, down the medians of Queens Road, Queens Road West, and down the middle of Queens Road East.  Considerable tree removal would be required, causing much pearl clutching.

•  Bite  the bullet, and totally redevelop Cherry.  This would cause much gnashing of teeth over "gentrification."  Increase the amount of under-market housing in Brooklyn Village as an offset.  Key use for Cherry:  a new medical school affiliated with UNC, and/or Duke, and/or Wake Forest med schools, plus the inevitable medical office towers.  Cherry is midway between Carolinas Medical Center and the Presbyterian/Mercy complex, walkable to both.

Re : Closing the Square, and two blocks off Tryon and Trade each direction.

"This summer, the German capital has announced plans to pedestrianize some vital central streets starting in October. One experiment will ban cars from the main section of Friedrichstrasse, a long, store-filled thoroughfare that, before World War II, was considered the city’s main shopping street."

IMO, it would be great to close off Tryon between Stonewall to Fifth St converting the middle two lanes to a bike & scooter thoroughfare.  Restaurants could use the extra space to expand seating for outdoor dining and kiosks set up for local artists and food merchants.
