Charlotte bankers eye billion-dollar launch

Charlotte could soon be home to another billion-dollar national bank.

A team of investors — including a quintet of formerBank of America Corp. and Wachovia Corp.heavy-hitters — is attempting to launch a new bank here called Blue Ridge Bank N.A. The proposed bank seeks a national charter that will allow it to purchase distressed banks instead of opening a brand-new operation, according to a copy of the charter application obtained by theCharlotte Business Journal.

Ahh, you beat me to this one. This is very interesting... Given what I've read it looks like these guys intend on building this bank pretty fast through acquisitions of distressed banks. Hopefully it's a bank with simple, smart revenue generating products. Given all the banking know-how in this town, I'm surprised it took this long for someone with ambitious plans.
