U.S. Census: Union County Population at 200,000

According to the U.S. Census, Union County had 198,645 people on July 1, 2009, which is 74,868 more people than its April 2000 population. Union has grown by 60.5 percent since 2000, a breathtaking pace.

You can probably thank I-485 for that population gain...and thus I-485 has created its own bottleneck where it turns into a parking lot through the Providence Rd. area. :)

And the Monroe Bypass could accelerate growth into eastern Union, transferring Wingate and Marshville into robust exurbs. It is entirely possible that by 2020, Union County could have over 300,000 people.
