Omni Hotel/Convention Center hotel/24 stories/800 rooms/complete

It's going to be great infill, and more importantly, add incredible street activity which will trickle down Gateway BLVD.

Yes it's a box and short, but it's going to be a great, great addition to our downtown environment.

Does anyone have access to the Encore pool area? We could good quality photos of what's going on rather than just checking the Oxblue cam for the MCC.

Yes. Will (no pun intended) talk to somebody about that tomorrow...

Feel free to tag along tomorrow with your camera - meeting at Crema at 9:30ish and going to all the under-construction sites for a massive update tomorrow afternoon.

^ Unfortunately, I can't. I'm gonna have to go back to Memphis tomorrow, but I am going to try to make a forum meet this summer, when hopefully I can get a few more updates and meet you guys.

By these pictures, this is going to be a huge presence. I think I underestimated how it's going to impact that area.

Anyone have any idea for what's planned to go across KVB from it? Looks like this will make it prime real estate for boutiques, nightlife and restaurants.

Yeah, I think we're not going to realize the full impact of the area until these things begin to open and operate.

I saw a shot from the, heck I am going to do it, the Cumberland Science Museum (the Discovery Center just doesn't seem to flow right! :P) from one of the news channels. The Omni is pretty dominant from this view. Creates a nice addition to the density growing in SoBro. I wish I could find the shot again.

Will be in the area tomorrow, will take my camera and see how it comes out from there...

Cool! It would be great to see, especially if the camera was on a high point on the building. Wonder if it has the same presence.

Yeah, that's the angle. The picture I saw seemed to be bigger(?). Dunno, just remembered the Omni looked good next with the Encore and Pinnacle behind it. I see I got the name wrong too. Adventure Science Center isn't as bad as the Discovery Center! Dunno, where I came up with that!

Maybe you thought of the Discovery Center in the Boro?

Maybe so. I thought it might be because of Tullahoma's Science Center since I am in and out of the area a lot, but it is called the Hands-On SC...oh well. My brain must be maxed out at points!

Good video, but does not do a thing to change my opinion. Still very very bland, and a wasted opportunity. The end of the video, where it pans away from the building at night, it gets lost.

I think a new hotel that gets built nearby in the next 5 years or so, would (could) easily outshine this box. There are already some new stunning hotels built in other cities. Even Alex Palmer's concept for the ICH at the Summit from 6 years ago was far more edgy looking.
