GVSU Trustees

I read (on-line) in the Press that the Republicans in the Legislature are planning to block two of Gov. Granholm's picks for the GVSU Board of Trustees. One of those picks, Mary Kramer, publisher of Crain's Detroit Business, would be a superb trustee. Mary is a former reporter for the Press who grew up in GR, went to Catholic Central and then GVSC (as it was then) before moving to SE Michigan. Mary was the editor of the Lanthorn and covered Grand Valley when she was at the Press. She has remained active with the university, was awarded an honorary doctorate and has been a commencement speaker. As a current resident of the Detroit area, Mary also would bring the perspective from that side of the state, given that about half of the entering freshmen at GVSU now hail from SE Michigan.

I hope that good sense will prevail and Mary will be named as a trustee.
