Is there local ordinance limiting these things to 10mph? That’s in the range where it’s a menace on the sidewalk but way too slow to ride on the road.

I took a Spin for spin on Monday at it seemed to reach 11mph. That's 10% faster than the competition!

What could be better for our UPers? Transit and BEER!

From Bungalower

I've seen it come to breweries I've been sitting in.  It was like a tornado of cow turds flew into the place.  It wasn't fun to experience from my side, but it looked great from theirs.

Bird is one of the "original" scooter companies, and as a brand loyal person, I tend to try to use them whenever possible.  Lime is their biggest competitor in the grand scheme.  I'm not sure why you think someone will get pushed out (beyond standard capitalism, and with each company limited to 200, there's not actually free market forces happening).  Most cities have 3-5 companies.  You just have all the apps on your phone.

The 10 mph is definitely an issue.  I think it needs bumped to 12 and that would be a reasonable compromise as opposed to the 15 in other cities that have tons of bike lanes and side streets.

Electric buses coming to Lymmo starting this summer:

From The Daily City

They look so small in the render! Really, for a downtown circulator the current buses just don’t have the capacity and feel so gloomy and it doesn’t look like this will be an improvement.

Let’s be honest -

- civic investment in dedicated transit lanes

- free market interest in bikes and scooters

- buses with minimal choice riders that are actually hiding the homeless problem behind tinted windows and a parking garage transfer point

SOLUTION - concert LYMMO lanes to bike scooter lanes with LYNX providing golf cart transit for anyone that can’t use the other modes

The problem with LYYMO now is the route sucks for the Orange Line and is usually slower than walking and the Grapefruit line doesn't have dedicated lanes. Lime and North Quarter lines are even more useless. They need to consolidate and reconfigure the lines to actually service downtown effectively

The proprietary lights on Magnolia are just awful. They really need to extend to College Park/future Packing District, SoDo and Ivanhoe Village.

Virgin Hyperloop completes first test with actual passengers

Virgin Hyperloop gave the first ride on its test track Sunday in Las Vegas, but it will be years before the public can potentially take a high-speed ride on a hyperloop
Hurdles remain before a commercial hyperloop system is built. Virgin Hyperloop still needs to raise enough money for its next project, a six-mile, $500 million test facility in West Virginia. Walder said that pods at the facility wouldn't reach 600mph, but declined to share how fast they would go. The test facility is being built to certify Virgin Hyperloop's technology.

Walder believes that the company's hyperloop system will be certified in 2025 or 2026, and that we could see hyperloop projects before the decade ends.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/08/tech/virgin-hyperloop-passengers/index.html

Verge article with more details: https://www.theverge.com/2020/11/8/21553014/virgin-hyperloop-first-human-test-speed-pod-tube

Miami to Orlando was originally one of the selected routes for Hyperloop One. However, the company was bought by Virgin, and the routes are TBD at this stage, other than the West Virginia test route. With the Brightline underway and the Virgin separation from that, it is unclear whether Miami to Orlando will ever go forward.
