Downtown Orlando Project Discussion

Somebody mentioned the Ustler hotel project on Colonial in another thread.

Have these renderings been posted already?

If so, sorry for the re-post.

It almost looks like another small wing of rooms could come off the northeast corner (from the building that fronts Colonial) and partially enclose a courtyard on that side of the building.

Mama B's isn't going to be there forever and Ustler isn't stupid.  I hope there is some thought as to how an additional component can be added into this development.

In fairness to Mama B's, they have been in this neighborhood a lot longer than Ustler, Pizzuti, or Pollack Shores. If they want to ride out the wave of progress around them, so be it. There will come a time in the future when the value of their property, and the subsequent increase in property taxes, puts them in a "must sell" position. When this occurs, they will sell their lot for more than it is worth right now.

Personally, I am fine with this considering that Ustler's O&C Hotel development is not exactly an architectural slam dunk. That corner deserves something iconic.

Another 7-11 coming - 1 N Rosalind (Rosalind and Central) according to the January ARB agenda...... That's 3 in the core of downtown, plus one in Thornton Park and one on Mills just N of 50

I saw a brand new 7-Eleven on the corner of Edgewater Dr & Colonial Dr where the old O'Boys BBQ restaurant used to be - only a stones throw from 2 other 7-Elevens in either direction. But I have to say the new building on that corner cleans up that area a LOT. Now if we could only get rid of the cesspool motels nearby...

I think a 7-Eleven on the corner of Central and Rosalind is close minded. That corner has potential for something more unique to bring life into the area. From living in 55W, yes, the business may bring traffic to the corner, but not necessarily a good sort of traffic. It seems to attract late night, obnoxious drunk sorts and is a target for panhandlers. The concentration of 7-Elevens within the downtown area is laughable. It's almost as bad as having Gino's #4, #7, #87, all within a block of each other.
