Slated for June MPB meeting:

412 E Church St.

PD Amendment request to allow for a 300 unit 9 story residential building with ground level retail on the block between Church, Mariposa, Lake and Osceola.

How do you find the June MPB? Outside of the link provided by @MattSokoloff I can't figure out to find the MPB until the publish it on the city's website, which seems to take forever and day usually.  You guys seem to know all of what's on the agendas long before the city posts them.  Am I missing a place where they are?  Are they posted somewhere else b4 they are on the city's site?

This, the College Park Video, and the new hotel at Docs all seem to be things that I can't find info on anywhere.  I feel like my snooping skills are lacking.

Ken, the recap sheets are wierd. Right now, the one that was linked was version 5...for some reason version 4 is the July edition. Makes no sense to me but by changing the URL I found it -

As far as the hotel at Docs, it is in that same link and has been in others. But I just assumed it was referring to the Hampton Inn on Columbia. This is what I found under the Downtown South NID page:

Thanks for the help.  As far as the hotel by Doc's that I referring to it looks to be another one that you actually posted info on over in the Downtown South board.

Proposed hotel on Orange Ave wedged between the building with Docs Main Street grill and the 7-story office building to the south of Docs. Essentially Docs current patio.

Phase 1 is the new building (8 stories) with a ground floor lobby and 60 rooms.

Phase 2 includes building 2 more levels on top of the 3-story building with Docs with 25 more hotel rooms. Plans also call for exterior renovations for existing buildings on the block.

Hotel parking would be in existing garage behind buildings and connected by a bridge.

Potential bridge connection over Orange Ave as well.

I can't for the life of me find anything on this hotel, even reached out to some pretty good contacts and they're either confused or keeping mum on it.

While poking around the Hotel ORMC architect's website (Charlan Brock) I spotted this interesting rendering of a long lost plan for the OUC building that is now becoming Aloft.

Did anyone notice on the last page from Lutheran Towers a request to build a 9 story 300 unit residential building?

Here is the site:

Public art renderings: http://www.cityoforlando.net/planning/cityplanning/ARB/2013/05May/ARB2013-00043.pdf

I know art is subjective but the majority of the privately funded sculptures are horribly tacky; ranging from an oversized chia pet to a scuplture with limbs resembling polio deformities. The birds of "Taking Flight" is the only decent looking sculpture of the bunch, but not entirely original. It's a shame the public doesn't seem to have any say in the selection either. I'd much rather have more flower mosaics & landscaping etc than have Lake Eola visually poisoned with art pollution.

Thoughts?

About the art, I totally agree. I like natural scenery when you have the choice, sculptures are better placed where landscape isn't able.

I saw a new sign today that I hadn't noticed at the corner of Rosalind and Church at that parking lot where the Capital Plaza building is planned, Its got a rendering on it. I remember a sign without a rendering being there for a while but I hadn't noticed this sign yet, and I go past it several times a week...Is that sign really new, or have I just not been paying attention? And does anybody have picture of that rendering?

Like you said, it's all subjective. I like the renderings for the proposed pieces. But one man's Picasso is another man's Manet.

Wow. That is really good looking.

Too bad Aloft probably won't look that good.

I think I like Aloft better actually. Its much cleaner, this just seems like a bunch of frills to me.  I like that our downtown, while it does have some buildings with nice details like Kress, mostly features clean sleek buildings.  It really makes it feel clean and modern.  I just can't imagine something with this much frills beside CNL and across from DPCPA.

I don't think the OUC building could have been added to the landmark list or the national register with such extensive exterior modifications. Preserving the building's original features allowed GDC to qualify for tax exemptions and credits for those reasons. They could always "dress up" the exterior with facade lighting which would really make the building pop at night.

The renderings all leave something to be desired - check out the artists websites to see photos of other pieces they've done in similar styles.  I think they achieved a nice balance of interesting pieces - the thing I don't like is that it looks like the installation at Robinson and Eola will replace the current landscaping.  Art could have been incorporated here or they could have chosen a different site.

Ask and you shall receive.  I asked Lake Eola Park to post a site plan on Facebook, and here's what I got:

Eventually we hope to post or share the site plan right now we are turning it into more green space for the park, there will be a new sidewalk entrance off of Eola Drive into a new brick circle that you can choose three directions into the park. The city is also abandoning Washington St. Cul-de-Sac and we will be encompassing that into the park with bollards at the end to block traffic, we are also turning the end into a bigger and better entrance into the park. This will also allow us to expand the Farmer's Market on Sundays and to add more areas for events to set up. This is the short overview. We will have the new area ready and open on July 4th.

Sounds like the bricked road will remain in place.
