SW Baton Rouge?

Could it be....The Hwy 3132 Bridge in Gramercy that went to nowhere(Wallace LA) east of Vacherie?? It came to a stop; then looped around back to westbank on River Road...now that road has finally been extended thru the boon-docks to Hwy 3127(very remote)

Precisely. Also, some are of the opinion that the Audubon Bridge, although part of a larger vision, is a bridge to nowhere.

A bridge in the area in question would lead to alot more something than either of the other two bridges I mentioned. And like the Audubon Bridge, it would probably be part of a larger vision for a bypass, etc. if it were to happen at all.

Some seem to think that's too far south for the bypass. Don't know why.

I think the issue lies within whether the road is a bypass or loop. A loop suggests that the road is used by residents in the metro area to access other areas of the metro while avoiding clogged streets. A bypass implies traffic passing through from Baton Rouge, with no intention to stop in Baton Rouge, can now bypass the city all together on the way to their destination. As a bypass, the Sunshine Bridge could work, but as a loop, a new bridge north of Plaquemine would be required to provide the shortest routes possible for the population centers on either side of the River.

I would be in favor of a Bypass, because a Loop would create more sprawl.

Pretty much what buckett said. If another bridge were built, and both of the bridges were tied into a westbank bypass, it would work wonders as it would serve both travelers going through Baton Rouge and our local residents.

Highway 30 does need to be widened and there is a desperate need for a new bridge crossing the river close to where Bluebonnet ends at Highway 30.  Highway 30 is a nightmare going into Ascension Parish in the afternoon.  Saint Gabriel has traffic also...C'mon Saint Gabriel having traffic!??!  That is why it is necessary to plan ahead.

Have to agree with itsjustme3 here. I've never encountered heavy traffic on Hwy 30. While I agree it is necessary to plan ahead I wouldn't say it needs to be widened right now, although it will need it in the near future. That area is taking off and growing rapidly.

Got stuck in Highway 30 afternoon traffic just a few weeks ago. It backs up really bad going into Gonzales by the light at Tanger. From Tanger to around Hertz Equipment Rental. It was pretty irritating in St. Gabriel, also. The entire thing may not need widening, but the section between St. Gabriel and Gonzales could really use 4 lanes. The center turn lane that starts at Geismar was nice, but is not enough.

Not going to happen.

It'll need to be widened from Burbank to Airline in about 10-15 years. But as of today, it doesn't need it. Also, Ascension is still researching the idea of 4 roundabouts at the Hwy 30 and I-10 interchange.

Let your voice be heard garrett_225...i discuss plenty of things around here.... even if they never do happen! I'd like to see Hwy 30 upgraded for a southern by-pass/hurricane evacuation route tying it with Hwy415 (in WBR) over the Intracoastal Waterway..probably never gonna happen...but it's always good to share some ideas :good:

I would love for DOTD to plan ahead on this one, but we are so far behind I'd rather them try to catch up with what needs to be done now versus what needs to be done in a couple decades. LA-42 desperately needs to be widened, has needed it for over a decade now. I'd rather the money go into LA-42 now and then in a few years when we have less pressing issues may be work on thinking ahead projects.

Residential project planned for Gardere

A Georgia developer has plans for a residential development on a 12-acre tract on GSRI Avenue near Gardere. Phil Britton, who owns Atlanta-based JBP Holdings, today filed a concept plan with the Planning Commission to develop 38 single-family rental homes in a subdivision to be called Burberry Estates. The homes will come in two styles—1,200-square-foot, two-bedroom homes, and 1,500-square-foot, three-bedroom homes—according to Britton's wife and business partner, June Britton. Rental rates will range from $800 to $1,200 per month. Recent redevelopment in and around Gardere, including L'Auberge, LSU Innovation Park and the new National Guard Armory, helped attract Phil Britton to the area, June Britton says. "Even before the casino opened, we were attracted to this area," she says. "You can see and feel the growth." Burberry Estates is the latest of several redevelopment projects planned or under way for the area. The Planning Commission is scheduled to take up the Burberry Estates request at its April 22 meeting. —Stephanie Riegel
