There are obviously some major concerns with him for the eagles to just cut him, but....

If he actually wrote that statement himself I say give him a chance, not that sociopaths aren't the smoothest liars, but beyond that, that doesn't read like someone who would be an issue, or at least one worse than half the players in the league.

"ith a 28th overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night, the Carolina Panthers select Florida State University wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin." Love this pick. Love what he can provide to the team.

On an unrelated note, LOVEEE what my brownies did last night. Cant wait to watch them beat the panthers the 2nd last game of the season. Other than that go panthers ... :hi:

Same here on all accounts.  Browns fleeced the Bills for that pick.

Hoping Panthers target the secondary/oline today.  They have had needs for young guys at these positions for the last 2-3 drafts and seem adverse to taking anyone.  I don't think they can put it off another year.  I realize they draft these positions in the later rounds but it's time to get some immediate impact guys versus people like Melvin White who while good as a rookie was a UDFA.  Far less chance of hitting on a starter with the undrafted guys.

I've been consistent in my mindset that Manziel will be a bust prior to the draft.  Now that he is a Brown, I'm even more confident in that belief.  If he lights it up, I'll gladly eat crow.  But I just don't see it.  Great college quarterback, but lets see him scramble around and chuck the ball up in the air against NFL OLB's and defensive backs.  He will be a turnover machine at the pro level.

I'm happy with the Benjamin pick.  Cam overthrows his WR's sometimes.  Benjamin will be one of the few guys on the field that's built like Cam.  They should be fun to watch.  And I agree about our core now, Benjamin, Cotchery and Avant is in my opinion, an upgrade over aging Smitty, LaFell and Ginn.  Avant is just another Ginn and Cotchery is a clear upgrade over LaFell.  Benjamin and Smitty are difficult to compare as they are vastly different WR's.  Go Panthers.

I am inclined to agree, because thats cleveland luck...also Weeden and Brady were 22nd picks for the Browns and those turned out so well. Also, hes wearing 2, as did Tim Couch. So yeah all signs point to the fact we are essentially screwed. BUT we basically got him for nothing, we go that pick in the first place from the bust that was T. Richardson, we got the man we wanted with out higher pick (in which we scored another 2nd round next year). So even if he is a bust, meh just another notch in the Cleveland QB belt. But he certainly has more potential than any QB in the draft (although, I am of a belief that they all are going to bust).

Not to go off topic on Cleveland. I think the Benjamin is  a great pick. While he isn't necessarily showy or particularly agile, he has sure hands and is big enough to go up and grab anything that Cam lobs his way, and thats what Cam needs. Starting to revise my 8-8 record for the Panthers this year.

Oh boy.  Now the girl says he has a bunch of registered and un-registered guns, including assault rifles, at both Ivey's and at his South Charlotte home.  Does this means the police will get a warrant and search his home(s) and he'll be convicted of gun charges?

Panthers drafting a DE last week is looking more and more like a good idea... Hardy may of already played his last game here if what his girlfriend is true. Unreal.

Well, given what money can buy you in the court of law here is my prediction: he will get off on most charges, do minimal time (if any), and the panthers will say how "disappointed" they are. Then, the story will leave the news cycle and people and their INCREDIBLY short attention spans will forget by the team the season starts....and he will play.

But seriously though, if the allegations of guns and violence are true; what a freaking thug he needs to grow up and act like a human being, we are trying to live in a society here.

I don't know about all that... The Panthers are a little more concerned about the team's image than some others in the NFL. Especially given situations like Rae Carruth. Richardson is very sensitive to this sort of thing. If the accusations turn out to be true, I wouldn't be surprised if the team cut ties with him. At a minimum he's looking at a suspension from the league outside of the legal aspect. Possession of unregistered guns is a very serious matter and isn't something that's taken lightly this day and age. Throw in the fact that he supposedly assaulted a woman? Not good for Kraken.

next time the city gives money to any sports team they should include a morals clause in the contract which requires returning 10% (25%? 100%?) of the funds each time an employee or owner of the organization is convicted of a felony.

The city spent money on the Panthers in order to maintain the city's visibility. Every time a Panthers player is in the news for something like this, that goal is damaged.

Yeah, let's do that in the financial industry as well, wait, no one was really convicted of robbing the rest of us!

Good luck on getting that done. As often as players move from team to team, it'd be difficult to hold them accountable to that degree. They are more worried about their own pockets, as opposed to the teams. Hardy's incident is more of a reflection of society as a whole and not the city of Charlotte or the Panthers. Why someone has to have a house full of assault rifles is beyond me. I've never understood it. Never will. Aside from whatever his legal ramifications will be, he'll get slapped with a stiff punishment if he's in fact guilty. The league and team have no tolerance for it.

Reflection of athletes more so. These guys are given everything, and that could also be an issue, when you give a thug the world and all the money in it.........He has a house full of assult rifles. It just sickening he throws away his talent, for nothing. (again, if this is all true)

Good luck on getting that done.

I dunno, it seems like a pretty realistic first step for a US metropolitan equivalent of NATO for sports team subsidies. I think it would be easy to get every metro to agree to including the morals clause in any future subsidy or stadium contract. As long as it is a publicly known policy what city (other than Oakland) is going to say no?

As a much more difficult second step, get every city to to sign the treaty which states that sports team subsidies are always a bad idea then we could get back to professional sports being more of a capitalist (rather than semi-socialist) enterprise. I really wish that every team had a Green Bay Packers ownership model.

I am not anti-sports, just anti sports subsidy.

I get your point, and I'm certainly no fan of sports subsidies either. But it's basically a necessary evil. Otherwise cities like Charlotte, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and other similar size sports markets would be more susceptible to losing their teams to other cities that would bend over backwards to accommodate them. I don't think you could get every metropolitan of 1+ Million to sign such a treaty. Especially ones that don't have a team now. For many cities getting the national exposure is worth the price of subsidies and a couple idiots who think they have the right to assault someone. Panthers winning a Super Bowl for example far outweighs the bad of someone like Hardy in more peoples eyes. Sad but true.

Yeah, I used to want to see the Superbowl come here.  But honestly the NFL has just left me with a bitter taste in my mouth over and over again.  They are turning a great sport into the WWE one season at a time.  The NFL is going to slowly kill itself from the inside if it keeps it up.

^Yea, I read that article over the weekend and wanted to vomit. My favorite part was the host city having to pay all travel related expenses for a "familiarization trip" to 180 people prior to the Super Bowl. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar enterprise with owners being worth hundreds of millions (in a number of cases, billions). And the city has to pay all the expenses for what is essentially a leisure trip... And lets be honest, they won't be eating at Chili's or staying at a Residence Inn either.

Don't forget the NFL is "non-profit" too.  Tax exempt!

Hardy guilty on 2 counts of domestic assault....all in all I don't see it affecting his playing, but what an idiot and thug this guy is. He's everything that is wrong with professional athletes (see: Josh Gordon)
