Frontier and Spirit have announced merger plans:

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/transportation/os-ne-spirit-frontier-merger-orlando-20220207-qcu2mqxlzre2zopxygizvdbq6e-story.html

From The Sentinel

If the Biden administration allows the pairing, it could have a significant impact on MCO as they are the second and rhird largest carriers here. Stay tuned.

well, they seem to have the same planes, so for maintenance purposes, it would be easy.  Frontier is out of Denver I think...

A one-stop-shop for paying for extras!  Now they just need to buy Allegiant.

I fly rarely enough that when I do I just go with Delta (if there’s a flight in that direction) and avoid most of the angst.

I’m thankful that I’m far from wealthy but do well enough not to have to accept the low-end solution very often. I also am happy to just stay home (if it’s not an emergency) if that’s the only way to do it.

Frontier is the airline with the lowest carbon impact per passenger mile. Its a sacrifice we should all make when we need to fly, the environment needs us to sit closer together.

I was going to make a joke about courtesy flushing before the methane gets into the air and kills more ozone...but...I just remembered I have a relative working on something that deals with a new type of fuel for the major carriers that's clean (whatever that means).

and on that note y'all should write your local politicians about all of those horizon to horizon chemtrails cris-crossing the sky that everyone conveniently ignores and assumes are merely jet trails, which they are not.  Those are killing the environment,  emit carcinogens into the atmosphere, yet no one says or does anything about that regardless of party affiliation.  Now why is that?

That needs to be addressed before people start moving out of business class for the greater good.  cheers!

Will @jrs2be taking over for Al Gore? Enquiring minds want to know!

...I need a podium...I need an assistant...I need a hot wife (but I'll make do with Tipper)...I need a pal sidekick from the PMRC days like Joe and a villain like Dee...and a sizeable pension...and then I'm all set!

for the assistant...I might have to consult with Slick Willie and see if anybody comes to mind...

"Orlando International Airport ranked No. 7 among the busiest airports in the U.S., up from No. 9 last year, according to data from the airport."

Hartsfield was at 106M or close to it at one point and now is at 75M.  Roughly a similar percentage drop with OIA (50M down to 40M.  I am assuming the top 6 round out like so:  LAX, O'Hare, DFW, SFO, Vegas or SEATAC.  Remarkable, really.  Shows one of the power perks of a huge tourism industry; it helps air traffic numbers bounce back quickly from "crisis" situations causing a lull in operations...we also saw it after 911.

...if it means working closely with Tipper, then...absolutely.  except, I already submitted my application to be Hillary's beotch boy, so, I don't know how she might take it.  so my spin on the PMRC thing with Tipper would simply be like so..." hey, you know, so there's a label on this CD now and that's fine and all, but, I think I need a chaperone whilst listening to said album.  Wuddaya say?"

Been itching to get to Vegas? Allegiant announces seasonal non stop service from SFB to LAS with fares as low as $49:

that's a long travel distance for a fare that low.  Going to Ohio is one thing for that price.  There has to be a subsidy in there; I think the govt already subsidizes these airlines to a point, but for the Vegas route, I wonder if the Vegas CC or similar has a subsidy to get tourists there.  I know the casinos do it straight up with their promotional packages, but I wonder if the city/county/state does it for flights in general.

Iceland's low cost airline WOW went out of business a few years ago in 2019.  It was quite a nasty affair with lots of stranded passengers.  I never flew them, but they had some cheap flights to Europe.

The rights of WOW were purchased by a woman name Michele SOMETHING who beyond just trying to figure out what her last name is now, was yesterday, will be tomorrow, is an epically interesting person in the most bat-turd insane sort of way.  If you are ever interested in going down that crazy wormhole, please be warned most of the history doesn't make any sense whatsoever.   She/her company were going to re-launch WOW any day!  This never happened.  I'm sure COVID played a huge part in this, but the entire tale still doesn't make any sense.

The former WOW execs (who let WOW fail in the first place) now had no real way to bring the airline back.  They intended to call it WAB (We Are Back) airlines, but somehow wound up with PLAY airlines instead.

Fool me once rules are in full effect, but this new low cost European line is going to fly into MCO starting Sept 30th.  You can book low cost flights from MCO (via Reykjavík, Iceland) to Prague, Salzburg, Brussels, Copenhagen, Paris, Berlin, Stuttgart, Dublin, Bologna, Amsterdam, Stavanger, Trondheim, Lisbon, Alicante, Barcelona, Las Palmas, Madrid, Malage, Mallorca, Tenerife, Gothenburg, and London.

That's a lot of cities on the cheap.  Same rules as most crappy budget airlines, you pay extra for oxygen, lights in the cabin, seatbelts, etc.  I kid, but you get it.

They will be flying Airbus A321neo LR for the Orlando portion.  You leave on TUE/THU/SAT and come home on MON/WED/FRI to start.

I didn't see it posted on here already, but the new garage at Terminal C is open to the public again, with daily rates about a dollar less than the A and B garages.

Incidentally, I have to say from walking around the intermodal transit center and looking at the concept art of the airline terminal the new South terminal complex doesn't feel overly... new. It looks like it was designed in the 90's or early 2000's with the architectural flair of a public K-12 school or hospital. Seas of undecorated white drywall, 90's mall style skylights, an early 2000's white/almond color scheme, and building materials and finishes I haven't seen in a new building in 20 years... If it weren't still a construction zone you'd probably think it was built at the turn of the century or earlier. I realize this is a massive and very expensive project as is, but considering this is basically the future of the airport that talks so much of the "Orlando Experience" and will be visitors' first impression of the tourism capital of the world for decades to come you'd think they would try to make it look a little less utilitarian.

Welcome aboard.

I haven't seen it, but I plan to be out there next week. The photos I've seen agree that it is all pretty basic, but I think it is pretty easy to distract from unappealing interior spaces using simple techniques like color, art, installation, etc. I'm assuming those additions are forthcoming- or at least I hope so.

You should see the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport. They went over-budget by 7 billion EUR and were 10 years late for that? Hopefully, the new MCO Terminal C can at least fix some of the TSA checkpoint issues. Terminals A and B were obviously designed for a time when you could meet someone at their gate, and they had minimum-wage Wackenhut employees managing security! The old terminals are definitely showing their age!

I flew into the Intl Terminal at O'Hare for the first time  a few years ago and was underwhelmed.  When I first saw it in 1992 or so from the outside I was wowed by it.  I have to say I was wowed by Philly's newer Intl terminal when I connected through it  a few years back.  The Chicago terminal is an airside/landside stand alone terminal; the Philly terminal I'm not sure.

I've seen the Intermodal Center at MCO and I thought it was cool and modern; I think it has green glass.  The new Terminal C I saw the 3D walkthrough.  It's fairly big.  I don't think there are skylights on the gate concourses  Airsides 2 & 4 have skylight strips down each leg built from construction, and Airsides 1 & 3 had them retrofitted in.  Yeah, I'm not happy about that; I just don't get it.

Beyond that, this is a tall rather large terminal.  I don't know how the airside gate hallways will look from the side or how tall those ceilings are or it the walls facing the airplanes are all glass.

I myself am not a fan of a gate concourse where there are planes on one side and a wall on the other; it's too confining.  I like it when there are planes on both sides like in the rest of the terminal.
