Topping off:

Ochsner and The Lemoine Company celebrated the “topping off” of Ochsner’s $100 million medical complex at the High Grove today. The five-story, 255,000-square-foot medical office building, 10-bed hospital and surgical center is situated on roughly 25 acres that is part of the High Grove development along Interstate 10, between Bluebonnet and Siegen Lane. The building will open in phases beginning in early 2019. Specialty care is expected to include cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, pediatric subspecialties, and an Infusion Center, among others. The new location will also include imaging, lab, pharmacy and retail food services.

That was fast.   Hopefully we can find a good pic soon.   I wont' be in town for a while! :)

The preliminary photos didn't really look like the best architecture.   Hopefully it looks better IRL.

Plenty  happening in the Health District aka The "Medical Corridor"....

Driving South  down I-10...the Children's Hospital is looking good with the multi-color glass panels btwn Essen/Bluebonnet  :shades: & think the north section of Midway Ave construction is also under way.  Driving past Bluebonnet/Picardy the High Grove area is looking pretty impressive with the 3 & 4 story condo's lined-up(NOT SHOWN on PIC) on a large swath of land along Ward's Creek! In front of it the new Oschner medical complex looks topped off...(see article)

Just outside the district; In Siegen Village Top Golf Going- vertical  looks impressive(old Tinseltown site)

The first pilings of a bridge have been erected over Ward Creek, connecting the High Grove with the luxury apartment complex of the same name. The medical buildings, representing 255,000 square feet, are awaiting walls and windows and air conditioning, among other things. The infant roads, parking lots and roundabout outside are currently still dirt and gravel.

Officials say the project is on track to meet Ochsner’s “aggressive” construction timeline, which will have medical staff moving into the medical office building at the beginning of December, and completion of the hospital next March.

The construction timeline only includes what officials called phase one. Phase two will likely expand the hospital from four to eight operating rooms, among other things. The hospital also is built to be able to handle five total stories, though Austin said there are no immediate plans to add on to it.

Officials are also working to expand the boundaries of the Baton Rouge Health District to include the High Grove, Suzy Sonnier, executive director of the district, confirmed. Eventually, the walking path lining Ward Creek on the other side from the medical center will link up with other BREC paths, including those in a “health loop” in the district.

Baton Rouge Health District hotel to break ground Wednesday                                         0916_1-696x352.jpghttps://www.businessreport.com/newsletters/baton-rouge-health-district-hotel-to-break-ground-wednesday

Thanks for posting Greg225:shades: Thought it might go more vertical like the 7-story  Drury Inn near Essen Lane. Not their style ...looks sleek nonetheless

Driving East down I-10; think i can see the path more clearly for the future Midway Ave. Should be a nice fit at that location.

Neat, I don't think I remember reading about that before.

LOL Dan!    You posted this in Hotel thread back in January of last year

Bring on the NEW Boulevards & Avenues :shades:    Now when does Midway Avenue start?

New $21M road expands access to Baton Rouge Health District and new children's hospital

The project's second phase, part of the $1.2 billion MoveBR budget, will extend the road to Bluebonnet Boulevard next year.

Thanks for posting that Greg225! Those bridges are cool...Would like to see this trail system  connect to the LSU Lakes via Bayou Duplantier from Perkins Road Park one day!  Cut across campus to the Miss River Levee bike path ; that takes you Downtown

Looks like dotted line (east of Perkins Rowe) is no longer going to be called "Perkins-Picardy connector ; instead Paulat Blvd. WHERE do they come up with these names?

I was wondering the same thing, it googled it and its French. I was just thinking, cities like Los Angeles and Houston must really have a tough time coming up with names.

Thanks for looking that name up Dan!  Sure it can be a challenge naming all the new streets.

Will be curious to see the designs for new I-10 exit between Essen and Bluebonnet, as well as several connector roads to alleviate traffic.

HEALTH ALL AROUND

Assembling the pieces for a cohesive health district modeled after Houston

Status: Ongoing

However it came to be, Baton Rouge’s major health care facilities all seem to be centered on one neighborhood. Baton Rouge General, Our Lady of the Lake, Pennington Biomedical Center and a host of specialized services, rehab clinics and labs occupy space along Essen Lane, Bluebonnet Boulevard and Perkins Road.

In 2015, a coalition led by BRAF put together a master plan to tie them all together with some sort of infrastructural harmony for the congested roads.

The recent additions of the sparkling new Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital and Ochsner’s High Grove medical complex make a cohesive plan more important than ever.

The proposal calls for a new I-10 exit between Essen and Bluebonnet, as well as several connector roads to alleviate traffic.

A shuttle service is recommended, as well as a designated space for a future train station, should passenger rail to New Orleans ever come to fruition.

And while much of this is still in preliminary design stages, we’re already seeing work on one component: Segments of the 7.4-mile Health Loop Trail for pedestrians and bicyclists were built in recent years.

Eventually, bikers and joggers could take the Health Loop Trail from Pennington all the way to Pecue Lane along Dawson and Ward creeks, adding another health benefit to the district. brhealthdistrict.com

More Burdens for the gardens....CLEAN UP PLEASE! ""article says like a "giant toilet flush"  after the heavy rains the other day.

New video shows litter washing into Baton Rouge watershed

Photographer Marie Constantin, who over the past year has single-handedly launched a citizen campaign to clean up the litter that flows from drainage canals into creeks, bayous and beyond, recorded a video around midday Thursday of stormwater carrying litter down Ward’s Creek and into an area of low-lying wetlands at the LSU Burden Gardens.

“It was like watching a Mardi Gras parade of Styrofoam cups,” says Constantin, who filmed the video near Concord Estates. “Then, I ran over to Burden and it was a floating, massive mess and stuff was entering there.”

Ward’s Creek naturally drains into the wetlands at Burden, bringing literally tons of discarded bottles, cans, Styrofoam cups and other trash in its wake, as detailed in a recent cover story in Business Report.

A heavy rain, like Thursday morning’s, exacerbates the problem, serving as what Constantin compares to a “massive toilet flush.”
