It is not believable that this house has structural issues sufficient to justify a demo

Me thinks they are going to subdivide the lot.

If they're destroyed the house, they may as well grant the city the density and subdivide. It's a shame that there's not many grand old homes like this left along Augusta.

Augusta Street Fire Station

Nice design for the new station.  The old one must be kept for at least 10 years. It will be interesting to see what the new owner does with it.

Thanks for sharing.  It seems odd that the old fire station must be kept for 10 years.  I wonder why that would be required.  I’d think that a buyer of the site would want to tear it down and build something new.

It's a shame that they can't force it to be kept longer, IMO.

Its not odd, the city thinks the building is part of the character of the area and while they can not use it they want to see the building remain.  I bet it becomes a restaurant or bar.

Why would they only require it to stay for 10 years though? I like the building and it's character too. I would like for it to stay. But the 10 year requirement has me puzzled.

Well, it didn't prevent them securing a buyer; though I wonder how such a restriction affected the price.

Maybe the station still has it's fireman's poles--a gimmick some tenant could make use of...maybe...or maybe not.

Augusta Row townhouses FB

Augusta Row

27 units from the mid 500's.

-----

BTW, the house/office  at  501 Augusta (corner of Augusta and  Claussen has been demolished.  The owner also owns the adjoining properties at 503 Augusta and 8 Claussen. Each of those two have a house on them and they appear to be vacant.

There has also been some clearing of the Stone property between Augusta and Church St.

Building permit issued for the first townhouse at Augusta Row.

It's nice to see this moving forward! Getting into this area pre-County Square redevelopment seems like a smart move for potential buyers. I'm still not in love with the design, but it's a great site plan-- which ultimately matters more.

David Stone has 805 Augusta St. under contract for $390.5k.   If it closes, he will own all the East side frontage along Augusta St. from Paramount Park Baptist Church to McKay St.

He also has plans to open a Hostel at 813 Augusta St.  (corner of Augusta and McKay)

I noticed some surveyors at the old Saluda River Pet Food site at the corner of Augusta and Conestee this morning.  Anyone have any idea if something new is brewing over there or if the Chikfila proposal is getting resurrected?

Too bad they didn't allow that Chickfila with a drive thru since drive thru is basically all you can do right now.  They may want to reconsider.
