Nashville Bits and Pieces

Yes, that's the area. It sounds to me (based on the article), that it only includes the old Great Escape building, which is the larger one with the black roof. Not sure if they own the convenience store (grey roof) on the corner or not. I would like to see that whole corner rehabbed, but I guess it depends on what they actually own.

I'm so happy to hear that the Great Escape building is getting rehabbed and not tossed by the wayside. It isn't necessarily particularly beautiful or of any particular importance, I'll grant you that, but these are the types of structures that truly set neighborhoods apart and give them character and something for the residents to take pride in. I really fear that this urban renaissance will simply take Nashville to a place that loses all it's unique character in exchange for some cookie cutter version of urbanity. But perhaps that is starting to change.

Yes, it is the old Great Escape building, and I believe they will have underground parking to extend the building all the way to the end of the existing parking lot. It also includes the small building between the G.E. building and the old art deco building at the point. BTW: I believe that building is owned by the same family (LaGasse) who own the land where the Buckingham project will go.

The H.G. Hill building, at least the old plans I saw, will be 3 stories over 1 level of u.g. parking.

There is a paid article at the Post, but I gave WW the info. This is a new mixed use project on the corner of Lishey and Cleveland. Urban Housing Solutions is doing this and Barron Dowdle is the contractor adn DAAD is the architect.

Hmm....is this in East Nashville? Is this the place where I saw a story on where they stumbled across a few old graves while digging?? Sorry, random, I know. It was interesting. They thought it could be an old family plot. Not related to a homicide nor is it old like prehistoric.

edit: YES!!! This is it!

Obviously, I am confused! I read WW's article linked from the Post and could swear I saw a rendering a couple years back of a new building to replace the old one where Great Escape was.

From the rendering, that looks like just the building at the point. Isn't there more to that HG Hill project? Seems to me that a space that small would pretty much require going taller than 3-4 stories. Also, I'm a bit bummed that the new Hill remodel apparently does not include the canopy. I really like the canopy.

IIRC they originally thought they could put 7-8 floors of apartments over retail there but because of the shape of the lot they couldn't accommodate the necessary parking for the apts. So this redesign is really minor and kind of a disappointment.

Nice shout-out from the Wall Street Journal;

http://online.wsj.co...2927301922.html

"Nashville still has nearly three times as many music businesses as Los Angeles, but the establishment of a new creative class that includes non-country stars like Jack White and the Black Keys, as well as an improving local economy, has spurred demand for upscale dining options, one-of-a-kind shopping and buzzy cultural venues."

Interesting topic from the Post about midtown/downtown merging;

http://nashvillepost...lles_urban_core

Great article IMO. I too see this happening. Land bridges along Dem, Broad, Church, and Charlotte could help too. Also, our recent discussion about a development including an urban car dealership could work for both parties as well.

Side note. I know Beaman or it was stated in a recent article that Beaman did not favor public dollars to use for the BRT. I wonder if he, if any, would help fund the project?

I just have to ask, why would a car dealership have any interest in funding public transportation?

The Beamans have money and lots of it. I know they've donated money to Belmont, Lipscomb(?), and other things around the city (parks, etc). I mean it's their money and they can do what they like. Just wondering what his alternative would be or if he is against it (BRT) all around. Hey, it could be called the Beaman BRT line or something to that effect. If they and the Ingram's threw some money at it maybe it could work? I dunno, I just hear the argument for private entities funding projects like this so I was just asking some questions relating. I really don't know, just some thoughts.

It certainly has all the right ingredients... location near the airport... near the lake... near the interstates... and an already growing economy, with a great school system and solid household income levels. Looking at how much Hendersonville has grown over the past 30 years, I think Mt. Juliet (and even Lebanon, although farther out) can grow twice as much in the next 30 years. There's still a lot of land available near the interstate too.

It does bring to mind the Buchanan Point office development on the Davidson side and makes me wonder how that is coming along.

Oh boy. Well I guess the Star could run both ways now! :P

They should show this picture during rush hour!! :P

Kind of have mixed feelings. It's good in the sense that it could be a big draw, but the sprawl...if it including smart growth and development including transit!
