I think the damage has already been done with the way many people see it, in the allotment of congressional seats. I think this is a lesson that hopefully teach these states the value of investing in their census taking infrastructure and advertising.

So Nashville's metro could have in actuality been off by a few 100k population during the 2020 census?

I don't know how you could, the census is a huge operation and already hard enough to get right (obviously). By the time you got through the funding wrangling, politics, and lawsuits, it would be time to start ramping up for 2030 anyway.

Nashville Metro Codes Dept. is projecting $5.61 billion in new permits for FY 2022, which ends June 30th.  That will be another record, up from last year's $5.39 billion.

The number of permits issued is also expected to rise to 15,981 this fiscal year, which would set another record. That total would be an increase from 13,517 permits issued last fiscal year, according to Metro Codes.

I have noticed an oddity as well. Some permits that show issued in the daily permits, but do not show up on the Building Permits Issued. The Metro Codes is fouled up beyond all belief right now. FUBAR

I saw one today for the Haven Charlotte for 40 million that did not show up in the permits issued. I think the one for Pinnacle was done a couple of weeks ago and also never showed.

Noticed on the HIP Murfreesboro and HIP Smyrna Facebook pages that a lot of Californians who have moved into Rutherford County are always asking questions about where to shop…eat…etc.  Surprised how many pop up.

There 's a new house on our side of town, infill on an established street, that was finished and purchased within the last year....in my family we call it the BMW House.  There are at least seven (I have counted eight) BMWs in the drive/garage at most times.  Story is they too packed up for some California Leavin'.  We have a lot of folks here in Cookeville and the UC that have made the trek across the country from California.  It seems almost everyone knows someone new from California who chose to reside here; I work with a person who cashed in five years ago in Northern California and resettled....he and his family love it in Tennessee.  It's crazy...a California diaspora focused to Tennessee.  The person on the article above called it the new American Dream...to live in Tennessee.  Maybe not, but certainly could be the Californian Dream.

I also read this from the census this week about the undercount of the 2020 census. TN was undercounted by 4.78%! You have to figure most of that was in MD TN

At my church in Cookeville, we've doubled in size in the last couple of years mainly from families moving here from California.  Without exception, they absolutely love it here, and it's not just all about the money.  While it's true they can live in much nicer homes with real lawns, they also like that the public schools aren't dangerous or wacko, people are genuinely kind, they don't have to irrigate their gardens, there's plenty of outdoor recreation, etc.  The kids are thriving in ways they could never have in California.  I know we in Cookeville have benefitted from some of them who've moved here and opened restaurants or other businesses such as Grace's Lumpia and The Slice. 

I'm reminded of an episode of House Hunters a couple of years ago when a young couple from California wanted a better place to raise their future family, and they zeroed in on Cookeville.  They sold their tiny townhouse in SoCal that had a view of a parking lot and bought a large home with acreage outside of Cookeville.  He was able to transfer his job, and she got a job in the school district.  In the follow-up interview at the end of the show, they said they love it here so much, they got their parents and siblings and their families to also make the move to Cookeville.

One thing that blows some of them away is that we have better internet speeds than they did back in Cali.  With 10 gig internet even way out in the boonies (something not available even in Nashville), some of these west coasters can enjoy a rural lifestyle that was impossible in California.  One family at my church bought over 100 acres in Silver Point where they have 10 gig internet, they have creeks and waterfalls on their property, and yet they're less than an hour from the Nashville airport.

Every time I watch Yellowstone I do a search for 100+ acre farms in Tennessee.

They have completely taken down the tall containers behind the crane on the left. Some pictures  I took.

 

I have full view of when the Reed District gets underway. You guys will get alot of pictures.

When can we expect some news about these plans? It now appears that they are dismantling the equipment, possibly to prepare for demolition of buildings? So I would imagine that some type of permits have been issued

I’m hearing they’re replacing the dairy with a huge milk cow statue…to pay tribute to the land’s history.
