Rouses coming to Baton Rouge

Rouses Market, a Houma-based chain with 38 stores in Louisiana and Mississippi, is moving into the Baton Rouge market. The company has signed a purchase agreement for five acres with Long Farm developer Russell Mosely to move into the retail portion of his TND. The company plans to open a 55,000-square foot supermarket fronting Airline Highway sometime next year. “I think they’re a perfect fit,” says Mosely, who is developing the property once owned by his legendary grandfather, the late Sen. Russell Long. “They’re a Louisiana home-grown grocery store and carry a lot of Louisiana products and they just run a great operation.” Donny Rouse, managing partner of Rouses, declined to comment on the deal. However, sources tell Daily Report the company also has a second location in the metro area under contract. —Stephanie Riegel
