Parking Garages of Baton Rouge

Due to discussion in other threads, I thought it would be great to get a discussion started of some of the great local parking garages.

The State Garages downtown aren't bad. I love how they incorporated retail in the design on what were original empty lots. The Main Street Market is a great place to grab breakfast on Saturday mornings. I often walk their from my apartment in Spanish Town.

Whats y'alls favorite parking garage?

Had no idea posting in the LSU thread about Union Square would start all of this

I like the way they implemented the street-level retail in the parking garages on those empty lots as well....esp the the parking garage Third Street at Main with the YMCA!

Eventhough it's ugly; the parking garage at the Belle of BR casino is an impressive structure...

A major campus like LSU is loong overdue for a multi-level parking garage. They are all over the country.

I like the idea the mixed-use Laurel Tower (failed proposal) had with office/residential on top of the tall parking garage.

I parked in the II City Plaza Parking Garage yesterday. I was surprised at how nice it was. The exit leading from the garage to II city Plaza was very well designed. I also thought it was great that anyone can park in the garage and you can pay with a credit card to exit. Too bad the garage closes early in the night.

I really wish the State garage on convention was 24 hr and you could pay with a card. It would do a lot to help with accessibility of downtown.

Also, there is a massive three level parking garage underneath the City Hall that many people are unaware of. It's ALWAYS empty. The city completely underutilizes the structure. The new Courthouse is complaining of a lack of parking near their building and want to build ANOTHER garage downtown, meanwhile this other garage across the street sits nearly empty. I have begun parking in it when ever I am conducting business at either the clerk of court or that end of downtown. I hope I don't get a ticket!

This is a legit thread...for so long BR lagged with lack of parking gargages; since Plan BR was implemented; the city has come a long way in filling the need; esp in Downtown. And now finally at LSU.

LT took some sweet pics from the II City Plaza parking garage...wish they had street-level type retail along North Blvd and/or Fifth Street where it looks bland. And still wish to this day they had kept the plans for the II City Plaza office tower on top of their parking garage.

24 Hour parking garage is a cool idea with the Hotel Indigo/Arts & Entertainment District.

At the old EBRATS site another 5 level parking gargage with 4 or 5 floors of office on top?? Some shared parking with the new Courthouse.

The garage at city hall is accessed from two points. The top level is accessed in between city hall and the river center library. They removed the control arms and placed them at another location in the garage so there are about 50 spots that are now accessible, however I am unsure if they are open for public parking. I park in them anyway.

The second level is accessed from government street in between the parking garage and the convention hall. However the control arms there are set up at the entrance of the garage, which is now below the new river center rear entrance. So it in inaccessible during the day.

Regardless, the city could do a better job opening these spots to the public and generating a small amount of revenue. At least enough revenue to pay for the maintenance of the garages.

I don't mean to hijack your quality thread, but I have to get something off of my chest.

Between Buckett and itsjustme, I think the Baton Rouge has serious contenders for UP's biggest hack award.....aka, "the Lorena Bobbitt".

You two are priceless. Your back and fourth on this message board is the source of major amusement for me. Please don't change! :) I'll be really disappointed if either of you ever stop posting.

I have found being pithy is the best way to communicate with him and It provides me a ton of enjoyment as well. I am glad you think so too!

Glad you can appreciate diversity of opinion.

I actually think you would both enjoy each other's company for up to several minutes at a time without any violence or name calling....you guys do represent the colorful differences of opinion around south Louisiana.

Itsjustme provides a good grounding for some of the visionaries on this board.

Like Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow.....you two justify each other's existence.

I always enjoy diversity

But thank you for calling me a visionary, however I would prefer the term optimistic. The ideas I present on this forum have been done in other cities in America and could be done here if Baton Rouge wasn't full of so many pessimists and those satisfied with the status quo. Just my two cents.

Thank you for providing your commentary. I find it just as interesting that you believe you are the grounded one. I would hope we all continue to provide are colorful opinions and ideas. Thats why we are here, isn't it?

I've been in that garage a few times but it has been many years since I've parked in there. I've always wondered why they don't use it during events like Live after 5 or the downtown festivals.

Looks like the garage is on "hold"

New garage taken out of library plan

The proposed garage, at St. Ferdinand Street and North Boulevard, would have been shared by the library, the 19th Judicial District Court and the city-parish, Bardwell said. All three would have shared in the cost of building of the facility.
