but their beer isn't even good.

Also, I hope Jim knows he's across from a pretty notorious gay bar, and that'll be a good chunk of the clientele, going to his god fearing, queer hating restaurant. I like Jim as a person, but his views on people is a little rough.

Little off topic but I love when I read an article and see my granddads restaurant in there (Lexington BBQ, aka honeymonk).  Wish these guys the best of luck, haven't tried anything from Hyde yet but they're on my list.

Blue Blaze doesn't seem to be doing very well - I go there somewhat frequently and it's never crowded. Also, they're looking for another $1 million in investment.

I think I've only had one of their beers, so I'll take NeverSummer and RDFs word for it.  But haven't they won best beer and best brewery at JJs Sausage Fest the last 2 years? Is that just a case of the general party public not knowing what they're talking about?

maybe they haven't figured out how to do it on a large scale yet, but I have a friend on the brew/bar staff, and he thinks they haven't hit their stride, and doesn't know when/if they will. Its a fantastic bar with a great beer list, their beers just haven't caught up.

I had been to Hyde twice, having horrible experiences both times, but gave them another shot Saturday. My wife and I arrived about noon:30.  It was great! All the staff was super friendly. The brunch food going out looked fabulous (but we'd already eaten)...they now serve brunch starting at 10 on Sat and Sun.  I had a flight and four of the five beers were fine.....and they only charge 5.50 for a 20oz pour of their beers.  And it wasn't crowded at all, which I'm sure aided the friendliness and my overall enjoyment.

Still seems like a place trying to be too hip-fancy for itself, i.e. just not our kind of place, but at least we had a great experience and good beer.

42$ for access? My guess is that microbreweries are the pioneers of redevelopment. They use vacant industrial space, often in brownfield areas and create their own destination where there was none.  I would love to see some determination of the $$$ value of their impact and importance to urban revival.

Has there been any investigation of the effect of micro breweries on the (re)development of neighborhoods?

There was a article in one of the online media companies (CO, CA, or C5.) It’s a more sophisticated topic so I’d like to say it was Ely at CO. (Though it could have been Andrew Dunn too, both those guys put out quality every once in a while.)

Matthew may get another brewery downtown in the old library.  https://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2018/01/02/brewery-eyes-rezoning-of-former-matthews-library.html   Another brewery is in the works already there.

I remember that old brutalist bunker of a building. It was the only place I could use the internet, on Netscape Navigator.

Oh a brewery build out in 9 months....LOL.   I think Legion took way longer and the guy had experience building out multiple breweries in town.  Good luck with that timeline!

Went to Fat Heads in Cleveland when I was just home for Christmas.  Solid brewpub, only tried an the Head Hunter IPA and thought it was a solid 7/10 west coast IPA.  They had a lot of high gravity Christmas ales and Imperial beers that were 9+% but I was driving back to my parents about an hour away.

Food was really good, especially their smoke house wings.  I think it'd be a solid addition to our brewery scene.

OK, so I'm not crazy. I saw the NC Beer Map somewhere recently and was super confused about the existence of "Cavendish Brewing." It's not on your list, either. Where on earth is that?

Cavendish is right on the edge of downtown Gastonia - not even in Mecklenburg County!  That map is a little skewed.  One would think that they would correlate the names with the dots.  Thirsty Nomad should be at the lower left and Heist should be in its place at the top right.  If they are going to toss in a Gaston County brewery, why not the one in Waxhaw?

Just too much going on in such a small space.  It's a nice space though and most of the stuff is good (beer just meh)
