Drinking Beer in Charlotte

Sugar Creek is collaborating with Southern Tier on an Amber IPA, brewed with maple syrup and aged on oak chips.  Pretty big deal for Sugar Creek as Southern Tier is brewing this on their BIG system so there should be plenty in both NY and NC. Good for them, sounds delicious!

Jonathan Wells wrote a quick piece on the new Lenny Boy space.  I noticed they have wine, but I don't think they have food.  I wonder how they managed to get around the food laws and requirements we were talking about a few days ago.

food is only a requirement if you serve liquor.

grodney... may I repost this ? It could be of great use.

Of course you can.  Though it's 2 days old so it's probably out-of-date by now, hahahaha.  Here it is with the colors all the same:

By the way, here's my map of breweries in CharMeck:  https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zvfji2eVQoVE.kz5BFo-0quQ8

Solid work from the Agenda describing NC House Speaker Tim Moore's visit to Triple C to discuss beer issues with Charlotte brewers.

https://www.charlotteagenda.com/65885/speaker-tim-moore-stopped-by-triple-c-today-and-met-with-most-of-charlottes-brewers/

no tangible hopes for progress on distribution laws however (Our republicans aren't even good at deregulation)

We still have too many redneck goobers in the state to get rid of the idiots in charge. Thank God though the rural parts are dying out and the cities are growing. Their day of rule is slowly coming to an end.

Yes, true, but the more immediate problem is that the idiots in charge are taking money from the alcohol wholesale industry.

apologies if I missed this discussion but CBJ reports the following about OMB:

"The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery’s petition to expand its existing facility on South Tryon Street is up for a vote Monday night. OMB is seeking to build a 13,400-square-foot manufacturing and office building and plans to increase the outdoor beer garden and gathering space to 52,200 square feet. The Zoning Committee and staff recommend approval, highlighting the brewery’s proximity to the Lynx Blue Line Scaleybark Station and the area’s “evolving entertainment district.”"

I think the addition of an "office building" is an important new step for our brewing cluster

I ran into Tedgenda at Sycamore yesterday, and he said Sycamore has scraped their plans for the additional building. Did I miss this somewhere?

I was there a few hours ago and asked one of the brewers I know about this.  They haven't "scrapped" the idea, per se.  The city, in plan review, told them that based on the large second story deck, they had to sprinkle and back flow the entire new project. Apparently, they are now reworking the plans.

Added Seaboard Brewing ("coming soon") to my map of CharMeck breweries:  https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zvfji2eVQoVE.kz5BFo-0quQ8

I had missed it earlier when I saw this article about the taproom and wine bar....apparently they're going to do a 5bbl brewery as well: http://www.charlottefive.com/seaboard-taproom-wine-bar/

Updated brewery hours chart below.  Changes since Jul 1 in lighter green.  Lenny boy added a day and is open until 11 on Fri/Sat.  Others added an hour here and there.

Small update, Birdsong now opens at 3 Tuesday through Friday. Now more reason than ever to sneak out early!
