Waiting for the influx of residents to start populating the Cherry/Division and Heartside parks.  Maybe it will also give the Downtown Market a needed shot in the arm.

I've been to the DT market a few times over the past few weeks (during lunch), and it's busy, but not packed. Madcap is depressing as they have a beautiful space, but only 1-2 people ever sitting around the bar.

I wondered, if the Market had been build closer to the core (say, just south of Hopcat), sans the farmers market stalls (which seemed somewhat unnecessary and direct "competition" to Fulton Street), would it have been a wild success? I think it would be. The market is a cool concept, it's fun to go to, and I love the actual building. It just doesn't work very well in it's current location.

The DT Market might not have been the success they were hoping it would be, but on the weekends it is slammed. Before it moved in I would rarely see people walk south of Cherry St on Ionia, that has completely changed.

The Ottawa extension on this project looks like it's almost ready to go.  I wonder if this and the garage will open soon or if they will continue to be used as staging.

The ramp sure is ugly, this whole project seems to have it's ass facing Cherry.  I hope they do something to spruce it up.  The back of the theater where those eight sections of recessed brick would be a great spot for movie banners.  Knowing the city, they will at least plant a lot of trees on the street.

You can tell the ramp isn't finished. There's almost a floor of masonry added on the Cherry St side and it looks like there are brackets/supports all up the back side for more finish work. Although I'm surprised they took down the tower crane if they still have work to do on the outside, unless they're laying brick all the way up.

What's up with the green LED lights in the ramp?

I believe it is to show if a spot is occupied or not. I was in Vegas a year ago and the lights turn red when a car is in the spot. This helps a driver see if spots are occupied as they come down the row.

This is correct. I heard the city was exploring this is other garages about a year ago. The technology is the same as what causes toilets to automatically flush (ultrasonic sensors). Now looking at you GRR........

They’ve begun to hang the cladding on the outside of the parking ramp.

i was surprised to see this the other day.  I wasn't expecting any cladding.  That ramp is pretty ugly, I wish they would have designed it for a future liner building on the south side like they did with the north.

In other news, it looks like they are almost ready to pour sidewalks at the corner of Oakes and Ionia.  The project looks great cleaned up with the fencing removed.  I would think the residential buildings and theater are pretty close to completion.   Sidewalks are usually one of the last steps.

How do that not make this a giant digital billboard?? Advertise the movies and events.. seems like a no-brainer

Isn’t there an ordinance prohibiting that? That’s why the light effects on McKay Tower are now static.

Looking at the sidewalk framing it looks like it all might be heated-- does any one know?

Yes, but I was just thinking  colored architectural up lighting. But banners and advertising would be interesting. The next Star Wars, or influential Grand  Rapidians. I just don’t want this to be a gaudy billboard on the highway, what is this a casino?
