Two Competing Casino plans for Grand Rapids (?!)

I know I am probably the minority here, but I like casinos. They are pretty common in Washington where we used to live and it'd be a fun Saturday night every so often: A show, dinner, and a little gambling.

I would actually enjoy a casino being DT, however, I agree that if it were to take an empty lot- why not? I am not a fan of it occupying a cool looking building that I feel has great opportunity in time as something else: residences?

What other lots are there available, large enough, that it could be built on? Other than DASH lots and land owned by Amway (which would never allow a casino in a million years). Keep in mind that any decent sized casino has a huge horizontal open space (50,000+ square feet) for a gaming floor, and then a hotel tower is usually added later. The Wayland Casino is 83,000 square feet, about as large as a decent sized manufacturing plant. Add in a parking deck and you're talking about some serious acreage.

All things being equal, if you pressed me to pick a site, I'd partition off a slice of Site 36. Then again, Wyoming is probably even less likely than GR to pursue a casino.

Or the Grand Rapids Auto Parts site off of Ann St/131. But then again, I think that's in Walker.
