I couldn't have said it better myself. I've been making these same arguments for years and it falls on deaf ears. There is a reason why these flim flam and bogus developers come to Greensboro with grandiose ideas that are basically pipe dreams. The city government seems to be so desperate to spur any type of development that they will entertain almost anything.

Of course the ego thing is a factor for developers like Carroll, but in the long run his ego is not doing Greensboro and its citizens any favors.

I have long suspected the reason why Winston-Salem avoids dealing with Greensboro is for the reasons that you pointed out. That city seems to be headed in the right direction growth wise, and that may be why so many in Greensboro are intimidated when they see anything positive coming out of W-S.

The real irony IMO is going to be when Winston-Salem is the one who builds the next 300'+ tower because they worked on building that infrastructure and developing demand downtown. The longer Greensboro keeps following the pipe dreams and hides from reality, the longer the city will go without significant development.

We're on the same page. There does seem to be a consistent inability to accept reality, which is normally a sign of a much more serious problem.

It's very sad what has happened to GSO. Charlotte and Raleigh have pulled far ahead in terms of growth, jobs, developments and their economies, and now Durham and W-S seem to have some momentum. Durham has just built a 20+ story tower and has a bunch of other development happening in it's core. As you stated, W-S has put itself in a position to create more demand in it's core with smart development and it's only a matter of time before they see another 20+ story tower.

"Wicked" part of inaugural Broadway season at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. Pretty cool to finally have Broadway shows downtown and the center will be getting shows it missed out on in the past due to the aging outdated War Memorial Auditorium at the coliseum.

This is good news for us. My wife is really big into theater so it'll be nice to not have to drive to Durham every time we want to see a show. Though we'll probably still go to Durham or Charlotte from time to time for the excuse to get away. Maybe others in other cities will do the same in Greensboro.
