Piecing together a few things here, but I think Monarch Café closed.  There is a CRE listing on Colliers for the space.  "This Class A, ±3,000-square-foot space is move-in ready for restaurant use. Formerly occupied by the Monarch Café."

There's also a P&C article that mentions The Butterfly Foundation opening the kitchen for commissary and pop-up restaurant use.  The article doesn't mention it, but I suspect that is a temporary arrangement until they can secure a new, permanent restaurant tenant (perhaps one of the pop-up users, potentially).

Here's an aerial photo of Robert Smalls Apartments (from Hub City Bees) that shows the absolutely glacial pace of construction (1st pic from Jan. 2023; 2nd pic from Feb. 2022).  If only we had any competent news organizations in the area, there really should be an investigative story on why these have taken SO long to complete.

The Northside Gateway Art piece has been installed in front of 500 Northside Station.  As a reminder, it was designed by Brooklyn-based Olalekan Jeyifous.  Not sure if the piece has a name.  It's not quite as abstract as some of his other projects (the tops of the poles pretty clearly represent home-ownership, education, and play).  But it's quite attractive and adds much-needed seating to the area.  I assume there will be a dedication ceremony at some point.

Wofford Bookstore signage has been added to The Hub.  And Moe's BBQ signage added to the rear.

A $6.1M contract has been awarded for renovations of the old Integral Solutions building on Wofford Street into the new Central Fire Station.  It will include 3 bay doors for fire trucks facing Forest Street and a two-story section for firefighters' living quarters.  The renovations should be complete in November.

The massive delay in move-ins at Robert Smalls is finally getting media coverage.  The excuse is "supply chain issues" which I don't fully buy because these units are well over a year behind schedule, whereas other local projects being built at the same time saw less than 6 months delay.  Supposedly another wave of move-ins is happening soon.  The Norris Ridge residents have been left in limbo during this debacle.  I think we can safely say that this prefab experiment has been a failure.

"I think we can safely say this prefab experiment has ben a failure."

Want to tone down the hyperbole, just a tad?

Unless you want to call Mitch Kennedy a liar to his face.

Edited to add: The truth of the matter is that nearly every day of this delay can be attributed to supply chain issues directly related to water infrastructure and issues with Spartanburg Water itself. But neither the City nor the developer are going to throw their supposed partner under the bus, lest it result in even more delays and complications and engineering snafus.

Now, is there any way for anyone to know any of those details given that the city and the developer aren't going to share them and Spartanburg Water sure as hell isn't?
No, of course not.

Which is why folks would be well-served to back off the ridiculous hyperbolic exclamations and finger-pointing when they don't know.

The whole situation sucks. But good grief, the benefit of the doubt that people are trying their best and sometimes things happen despite that would be beneficial.

Apologies.  The hyperbole was uncalled for.  My main frustration was not knowing what the real issue was.  You've explained, so I thank you for that.  I wish the media could report that, since this is something the public deserves to know in a project with public involvement, IMO.

Saturday for lunch eat at Sully's Steamers in The Hub for the first time.  Thought it was really good.  They were busy as well Moe's Barbecue. Was also impressed with the new Wofford Book Store. Nice Northside addition.

I've had Sully's several times, and I agree that it's very good.

Aden Bonded updated their leasing diagram recently, showing that they've secured a few more commitments.  I wonder how much space they need pre-leased before they can begin renovation work.

Updated Aden Bonded leasing diagram for March shows the additional commitment of (a portion of?) Suite 13B.  Looks like they have ~39k SF committed of ~93k SF total.  Maybe they'll start when they reach 50% leased? (I hope)  Still says Q2 2024 delivery.
