^Well they were sort of handed over admistratively to the US by the UN and now they are a part of a compact agreement along with a few other island countries as compensation for the nuclear testing that the US had done there. Under the compact agreements citizens of these island nations (Palau, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia) are allowed to travel, live, work, etc anywhere in the US, basically they dont need visas and are considered permanent non-immigrants or something like that? Anyway the sad thing about the nuclear testing is that there are thousands of people that have health problems of all sorts cause of all the contamination and many have moved to Hawaii to seek medical help as well as for work and schooling.
