Well, the trend continues... A developer is turning the Palmetto Building into a hotel. It's great to see all this development going on, but did we really need another new hotel in downtown Columbia? Well, I'm all for this one since it'll save the Sherlock Holmes Pub... but still...

From WISTV:

Historic downtown Columbia building to be refurbished as a hotel

(Columbia) Aug. 6, 2004 - Main Street has landed what city leaders call a home run deal. WIS has learned that businessman Rick Patel has purchased the Palmetto Building and will convert it into a 112 room hotel.

The Palmetto Building, at the corner of Main and Gervais Streets, is one of Columbia's oldest skyscrapers and would get a $10 to $12 million face lift. It currently houses offices and in its basement, the Sherlock Holmes Pub. The pub recently had to shut down after the ceiling started to cave in. Patel says the renovations will save the pub.
