Plan for Eagle Photo site gets the OK

By Joe Adler | 8-15-2004

PORTSMOUTH - After tabling the issue at its meeting last week, the Historic District Commission on Wednesday approved a plan for a 56,000-square-foot mixed-use structure to replace the Eagle Photo building on Congress Street.

Last week architect Steven McHenry unveiled the plan for a five-story, three-sectioned brick building with commercial space on the first two levels and 18 residential condominium units on the top three levels. Although HDC members praised the plan, the commission asked him to return with the exact window dimensions.

The proposed structure would cover the 6,000 square feet of the existing Eagle Photo store plus the area of the parking lot adjoining it. Parking for 25 vehicles would be available underground, with an entrance behind the building.
