^And a follow-up to my previous post:

Not long after downtown pedestrians started complaining about the absence of sidewalks along West Adams Street between Main and Laura street, construction crews renovating the Lerner building devised a solution to the problem. A partitioned walkway was erected Wednesday, allowing foot traffic safe passage.

Hey Fruit Cove! We were looking for a great place to live, and Jacksonville looks like the perfect place! The pictures are so beautiful! We were wondering if you could tell us a bit more about the area. What do people do for fun? How is the cost of living? Are job opportunities pretty good? Thank you for any information you are able to give us. B) Also, if you have any more pictures you could post I would love to see them.

p.s.- if anybody elso would like to tell me more about Jacksonville that would be great! [email protected]

Welcome to the forum, Melissa. If you don't mind me asking, where will you be moving from? You'll be impressed by all of the construction and revitalization projects taking place around town. The city's growth potential and location were the main factors in me relocating here 11 months ago.

I took several pictures around Jacksonville, earlier this summer. Here's a couple of links to the threads, which each focus on a different area of town.

Downtown Jacksonville

St. Augustine

Five Points, Riverside, Avondale

Jacksonville Beach

San Marco

Here are some pics of downtown posted on the 11 East Forysth Tower's website

these aerials are a couple of years old, but they show the location of 11 East Forsyth and give you a feel for downtown Jax, in general.

Thanks again for all the help everyone! I have a few more questions. Are there a lot of alligators in Jacksonville? What about sharks? Are the beaches pretty safe? Also are there a lot of snakes and spiders? Do alligators or snakes ever get in your yard? Do most people live in houses, apartments or trailers? If there are snakes, are many of them poisonous? What do you guys think of Salt Lake City?

Thank you again for all of the assistance and for being so friendly.

yes there are gators, sharks, snakes, spiders, and you forgot scorpions. i live in a house and the mojority of the population does too, i would assume. snakes are in your yard. Ive never had a gator in it that i know of but there is one in a pond a few houses down. spiders and scorpions can easily get into your house, ive had 3 scorpions in the past few weeks, they get in through the drains i believe because theyre always in the bathrooms. ive even had a small garden snake in my dining room. so yes there are critters here but i wouldnt worry about them. just keep your doors closed when youre not around and the big guys wont get in. sharks arent an issue unless you get bit. no opinion of salt lake.

Really? Scorpions. Hmm, I have never had those in my house. Cockroaches and palmetto bugs are common too.

How big are the scorpions there? (That really suprises me because I thought scorpions were more in dry climate) Do you know what types of scorpions are in Florida? (I've heard there is only one scorpion with venom that is potentially harmful to humans) Is it hard to get rid of those Palmetto bugs? This might sound stupid, but do they bite or are they just annoying?

Despite the bugs and other creepy things, Jacksonville still seems like a cool place. We have snakes here, and spiders in our house on a daily basis.

I was told that it was a bit painful to walk on the grass in Florida without your shoes on, is this true? Are there a lot of insects that bite?

Are most people friendly? Is it easy to get to know your neighbors there?

Lakelander- what did you mean that Salt Lake City metro area is larger, because downtown Salt Lake is very small with only I think 4 or 5 tall buildings. I cannot imagine a smaller place then where we are now, one of the reasons we want to get out of here is to go to a bigger city. :)
