Sheriff's Office Looking to Move

by News Channel 7

Monday, October 11, 2004

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office needs room to grow, and that room may come soon.

County Council members toured the old QS1 building on Howard Street Extension Monday. The facility will become home to the county's law enforcement center early next year.

The 45,000 square foot building was donated to the county and will accomodate about 300 sheriff's employees.

County Council chairman Jeff Horton says the upcoming move will allow better access to the interstate and much more.

"The sheriff's department consumes a lot of space in the county administration building and they seem to have a need for additional space, and with the proximity to the location of the jail this seemed like a great fit," Horton said after touring the building.

Before sheriff's employees can make the move, a few minor adjustments will have to be made, including installing security walls for the evidence division.

Good. That part of town should see immediate improvement.

The city and County need to uprade their facilities. The county office building is not that far from the new location, so it won't be that big of a change. I think the old QS1 place is over on Howard Gap Rd.
