the aquarium station does look really good. i was there a couple of weeks ago and was impressed. that was also my first time on the blue line. i had only seen the cars along the track when i was driving in revere and thought that the blue line looked pretty neglected and ghetto-fabulous, but after actually riding the blue line and seeing what they're doing with some of the stations, i am liking the blue line more.

The stations north of the Airport were expanded and modernized about 10 years ago. It's been pretty slow going on the underground stations, but with Aquarium done, they are moving right along.

Ah, that makes sense. Now that I'm looking, I see I overestimated the length of the Blue Line; I thought it went further north than it does.

It seems like a great idea to expand it through the close-in North Shore suburbs. I haven't spent a whole lot of time up there but those towns all seem to be pretty dense and urban-feeling, and I bet heavy rail would serve them well -- better than, say, Braintree. (It doesn't seem like anybody even lives within pleasant walking distance of the Braintree station.)

Definately a lot denser than places like Braintree...

Here's where the northern terminus would be, in Salem:

It would be in the dense downtown area, most likely.

This is the Braintree station:

I don't know if Salem is in the eventual plans of the Blue Line but I think that they are definitley aiming for Lynn, Blue Line to Salem would be great for both cities though (Salem and Boston) as lots of people live in Salem and come to Boston to work, and Salem is a huge tourist attraction for people who live in Boston. As for Braintree I think the main reason of that station is for people who live south of Braintree (Rockland, Marshfield) and do not have a commuter rail station in their city so they park at Braintree and take the red line in...
