We had a lot of stuff going on last weekend in Providence: the RISD Alumni Art Sale, the Raku Rhody-o, the Columbus Day Festival on Federal Hill, FirstWorks Prov, WaterFire... I made my way aroound the city to most of the events and took some photos along the way.

Looking down at Benefit Street where the RISD Alumni Art Sale was underway. Benefit Street is shut down and former students return to the school and set up to sell there art.

This little lawn is known as the RISD Beach, RISD students hang out here between classes and lay on the lawn as if it were a beach. (RISD = Rhode Island School of Design).

Over on the edge of Capital Centre, the Raku Rhody-o was taking place. Raku is an ancient Japanese pottery firing technique. Red hot vessels are removed from the kiln and placed into a barrell full of combustable material (in this case newspaper). The comustables react with the vessel and the glaze to create interesting designs on the piece.

Hehehe, fire, cool he he

This was all much cooler at night, everything was glowing red hot, plus they had fire dancers and a giant kiln that was shooting green flames out of the top. My camera blows at taking night photos, so I didn't bother bringing it then.

This is the area of Capital Centre were the Raku Rhody-o was taking place. As you can see, it's a surface parking lot :( . There is a proposal to build condos in this area, called Capital Cove. Let's hope they get working onit soon, the Raku Rhody-o can always find a new home.

Believe it or not, this is a photo of the Mossashuck River. Before the river relocation project, all of the downtown waterways were decked over like this. The Capital Cove proposal would uncover this last remaining section of buried river and extend the riverwalks further, I really hope this project gets off the ground.

This short stretch of the Mossashuck was renovated during the river relocation project.

Columbus Day Festival on Federal Hill. There was more going on than this, but I was kinda bored and didn't feel like taking any more pictures.
