actually some good news in the First Ward area not on Levine owned properties of course but other sites in First Ward/

I am hearing a 35 story apartment tower or so has filed for the old Levine Museum site on N College and 7th St.  Remember they sold this site to Velo  Development along with Post Road Residential out of CT.

also 10 Tryon might be getting underway soon.  This is the Publix anchored building that was supposed to be office above now looking like all apartments but that might be better anyway in the long run.

Both of these projects along with the new library and Truist tower to be built at 7th and Tryon may ignite N Tryon St area again.

And although i'm disappointed the old Barringer Hotel building will be torn down, that, too, will add hundreds of new residential units.

WFAE has announced they will be moving into the Google Fiber space next to 1st ward park

https://www.wfae.org/inside-wfae/2022-09-20/wfae-to-create-a-center-for-community-engagement-in-uptown-charlotte

Interesting comment from Daniel Levine about First Ward in discussing WFAE's move:

“Since Levine Properties recruited UNC Charlotte as an anchor, developed First Ward Park for the County and attracted Google Fiber as a tenant for the historic Philip Carey Building, our goal has always been to bring new energy and life to the First Ward,” said Daniel Levine, president of Levine Properties. “WFAE’s new center for community engagement continues to fulfill that mission and more to come with a First Ward hotel on the horizon.”

Is he talking about the Suites hotel under construction adjacent to the Ellis, or some new Hotel project?

Shouldn't that have been a blue font?

You must be new to Charlotte ;)

Sorry, I have nothing of value other than snark to contribute on this topic.

So now that WFAE's HQ is donated by Dan Levine, where does one go to get critical reporting of his development failures?

Pretty sure he’s talking about the Homewood Suites already under construction as part of the Lennar/LMC Development.  Just trying to spin the Glacial Pace of Development around 1st Ward Park as a ‘Win’ or momentum.  His company is actually holding back/stagnating development around 1st Ward Park.  Wish they’d just sell their holdings there…..

Is Google Fiber relocating?

There was no explicit mention of this in the CBJ article but since: a) Google never really utilized this space effectively; and b) Google is essentially walking away from the last four years of their lease (by subleasing to WFAE), it seems like Google does not want a local, public facing, office in Charlotte anymore.

Problem is, his properties get more valuable by doing nothing. They get less valuable when he puts structurally unsound parking garages on them.
