One of the buildings has been approved for use as a homeless shelter. The lease is for 1 year and is expected to only be temporary in order to house the homeless during the winter.

They did mention using one of the buildings on the Bull St. campus on a temporary basis. Hope it is indeed temporary, and I hope the state supreme court hurries up with a decision.

Those look nice. Seems to be a great development. Would this be comparable to Verdae in Greenville, just on a smaller scale? (mix of housing at all price ranges and types, office, and retail)

Blame the state legislature for the holdup. The case is tangled up in the state supreme court now.

Well, I declare, it looks like Charleston plopped down in downtown Columbia.

The project certainly does have a scale and style that resembles downtown Charleston.

The plan seems to lack variety and originality IMO.

The plan feel like Columbia. I will say that I wish it had less SFR, but its not bad as it is. This will truely be a great thing for Columbia. This is new urbanism in its true form- in the mix with real urbanism, not in the suburbs some place. DPZ will produce a quality product, of that I'm sure.

Those are the little houses behind the larger houses. Sometimes they are rented out to college students, or are used as the "mother in law" house.

I think if there's any one project that could change the face of downtown, it's this project. CanalSide's position on the fringe of downtown is a little too far removed to make as much of an overall difference. I also see more this project spurring more development downtown, in an area of downtown that's not seeing as much investment.

It's a house with an apartment out back such as one over a garage.

Actually the mews were originally the stables. Now it refers to a type of smaller housing that is very fashionable. I had a friend whose father worked at Buckingham Palace, and they lived in the mews behind the Palace.

thats something like 1260 new residential units for downtown, just in that one area.

mew houses are sometimes called carriage houses (i'm personally more familiar with that name).

We finally get some news on this project!

The state supreme court has finally made a ruling on the case, and it has decided that the proceeds of the sale of the Bull Street property should go to the state department of mental health instead of the state
