Detroit: Michigan Theater

In my thread about the Fox Theater I said I'd post pics of the Michigan Theater. This is a prime example of what not to do with historic buildings. The pics are sickening. They turned a magnificant theater into a parking garage . It was supposed to be demolished to provide parking for an adjacent office building, but demolishing it would've weakened the structure of the adjoining building, so they decided to turn it into a parking garage. I think it is safe to say that is the world's most ornately decorated parking garage. This just goes to show how little most Detroiters care about their collection of historic buildings .

Yes it is. In a way I wish it was demolished...it is sad to see buildings like this. I guess it is a lot more attractive than a parking lot though.

Well I am rpetty sure Allan's mind has changed. I recently took him in.

This is my favorite theater of ALL TIME.

I am glad they didn't demolish it, so we can see what once was.

Well, if it was converted back into a theater, at least the restoration team will know what it used to look like!

I remember how the movie 8 Mile was filmed in there.
