I remember watching something like this on a MythBuster's episode but instead of large balloons they were using the standard size. They never could get off the ground. They did lighten the payload a bit but gravity still held it's own. These are much large balloons than they used...I'd hate to be the one strapped underneat them, that's for sure, LOL!

This reminds me of a Mythbusters espisode that I saw where some guy in L.A. supposedly strapped a bunch of balloons to a lawn chair and went floating away. He then landed in someone's backyard Long Beach. If I remember correctly, the mythbusters concluded that it is possible, although the guy would have frozen to death at such high altitudes without wearing a lot of really warm clothing.
