Looks good! Couldn't help but notice though that the hockey teams mascot are the "Nads"? I don't know wether to laugh or to think those must be some tough dudes to where jerseys with that on them.

They're art students, I don't think they've ever won a game. The Nads name means when the crowd is cheering they yell, "Go Nads! Go Nads!"

Notice the placement of the pucks in the team logo...

Their mascot is a giant penis. Some teams refuse to play them if the mascot comes out.

RISD has a basketball team too, called, aptly, the Balls, and for awhile some girls got together and started a soccer team. Their name... the Jugs.

I'm not sure how much of that hispanic group could also be categorized as african-american. There's also a sizeable 'other' category, who knows what race/ethnicity those people are.

Providence's new July 1, 2004 population estimate is 178,126 according to the census. I don't know how much to trust this though, since they were predicting a 2000 population of 150,000 and it ended up being 173,000 (remember that, and they said RI would be down to 990,000, when really it went up to 1,048,000).

Just considering our economy, which has some good indicators, but compared to the south and west is a bit stagnant. And the number of housing units introduced recently.

Okay, because I am a local trivia dork, here goes...

"Gaspee" has two "e's." But that's a minor point.

The White Horse Tavern in Newport is the oldest tavern building in America. The building began as a tavern, and is currently a tavern, but has not always been a tavern. So it can't claim to be "the oldest continuously operating tavern in America." I think that claim to fame belongs to the Union Oyster House in Boston, though I am not sure.

Another fun fact: The Newport Mercury, currently one of Newport's two alternative weeklies, is one of (if not the) oldest newspaper in America. It began in 1758 and the only time it ceased publication was while Newport was occupied by the British during the revolution. The Hartford Courant also claims this distinction.

2005 population estimates by county are out. Rhode Island and all counties within Rhode Island are down, and the Providence Metropolitan Area (all of RI plus Bristol County, MA) is down from 2003 at 1,622,520.

San Francisco CITYSCAPE questions the estimates for their city. Federal estimates for 2005 put SF at just below 740k, while the state's estimate for the city is 795k.
