Charlotte Off Topic

Changing the topic, I've been thinking that is Charlotte-Douglas is ever renamed for another person, who should it be renamed for? Hugh McColl? Jeff Jackson (long in the future, should he move up the political ladder)? Romare Bearden? Anthony Foxx?

EDIT: All men, that reflects badly on me, who are famous women from Charlotte?

The Queen herself? Her Majesty Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz International Airport. That would take a good breath to say in full. There's also a pornographic artist (so I've been told) named Brooke Ballentyne (I swear I'm not making that up)

On a more serious note, the only women I can think of that might qualify having an airport named after them (A-list celebrities and local political or planning officials) are the current mayor (fat chance, regardless of your politics) Bonnie Cone, Sue Myrick, Annie Lowrie Alexander (first licensed female physician in the south) or Susan Helms (astronaut)

Honestly though if I had to cast my ballot it would have to be for a white guy, Sully Sullenberger considering the airport was his destination that fateful day, and the plan is currently here at CLT.

Not the only odd pocket of emptiness near uptown certainly, but seems the most develop-able, anyone know why these blocks just sit in this state?  (easier to envision in Satellite mode).

Well there's an airplane in the middle of it! (ill see myself out)

Tammy Faye Bakker International, where Jesus takes the control column.

That is hilarious. She is on wikipedia so it must be true! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooke_Ballentyne (mostly safe for work)

Other Names: Brooke Balentyne, Brooke Valentine, Brooke Balentine, Brooke Ballentine,B. Breedlove

Somebody's gotta tell the Chamber and the airport movie poster people.

But lets be realistic about the airport name, there is no alternative other than Dale Earnhardt International.

Interesting graphic, tech salaries are down in most major metros, stagnant in a few others, but eyeballing this, would seem in terms of Cost of Living, Charlotte compares very favorably to all but a couple metros here.  Surprised at Raleigh and Atlanta's rather large drop from 2015.

Yes...$114K in San Francisco or $100K in NYC is definitely NOT equivalent to $89K in Charlotte! I'm really surprised that the salaries listed for other cities aren't higher. This infographic portays Charlotte very well when you factor in cost of living.

This photo does not do justice to the shear number of people who were there.  I have heard estimates of between 25,000 to 30,000 people.

Agree 1,000%. I live along the route and was able to people watch. The number of people all walking/biking/pushing strollers was staggering.

Awesome! I wonder how many people showed up to Southend's "FrontPorch Sundays". Was just there yesterday and tried some Korean BBQ from the food truck "Hiya". There were other food trucks, many different locally owned pop ups and a live band as well.

This was a little surprising, Charlotte metro one of the those to have increased metro density as opposed to becoming more "suburban", though I can see "holes" in the statistics: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/22/upshot/seattle-climbs-but-austin-sprawls-the-myth-of-the-return-to-cities.html

Notable: According to that data, all cities getting denser faster than Charlotte are also growing more slowly.  Or put another way.....of all listed cities with positive change in density, Charlotte is the fastest growing.

New Healthy Meal-Prep store opens in Ballantyne Village called "Get Fit Foods"!  Went in there the other day and they have a huge selection! From Chicken, to steak, salmon, and ground turkey.  Also have mealplans available so you can save money instead of buying a la carte.  It's about time Charlotte gets more of these types of stores.

About time Charlotte gets more? I thought that tend did about 10 years ago when there were several just in Huntersville/Cornelius. They all went away over night and no one seemed to care and apparently no one even remembers them based on the post above.

I moved to Charlotte 12 years ago and don't remember those. I know there is CleanEatz in Steele Creek area but they freeze their food. Get Fit Foods does not. I think the population of Charlotte has changed a lot over the last 10 years and they are more health conscious. These concepts are doing extremely well in Denver, California and Northern states. I'm sure they can succeed now in Charlotte.
