totally off topic. Does anyone know what development is going on in Matthews that is roughly 50 acres on John Street. It is right by 485. I think that John Street is basically Monroe road. The development happening is about a 1/4 mile from Vinneies.

I hear it's gonna be a mixed-use development... shops, restaurants, offices and maybe some apartments

Those were all awesome Neo! I enjoyed looking through them.

Thanks appatone! I don't get out near enough to take pictures though. I bought a Nikon D100 over the summer with a couple of nice lenses and I definately haven't gotten the use out of it that I would like to. I do plan to start doing more photo sets though. And Flickr is great! 2GB uploads a month and unlimited bandwidth and space. Can't beat that! Not for what, $25 a year?

Just saw Will Ferrell outside of the Charlotte Plaza building. There are tons of people swarming the area right now. Just thought I would pass it along since many of us work in or around Uptown. I think they are going to be shooting a scene off of College.

Can I interrupt you perverts for a second?

Somebody tell me what this National League of Cities is. Is it a big deal that Charlotte is hosting their 2005 Congress of Cities Exposition?

These mobile workshops look pretty interesting.

Yes, it is a big deal. I will be attending because I am important. Nah, not really, I'm a nobody, but I will be attending. Like ULI, it's a networking dream come true.

Where do you get the idea that we are perverts? I am offended.

From the NLC website:

The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance.

Working in partnership with the 49 state municipal leagues, the National League of Cities serves as a resource to and an advocate for the more than 18,000 cities, villages, and towns it represents. More than 1,600 municipalities of all sizes pay dues to NLC and actively participate as leaders and voting members in the organization.

The National League of Cities provides numerous benefits to its network of state municipal leagues and direct members. The National League of Cities:

  • advocates for cities and towns in Washington, D.C. through full-time lobbying and grassroots campaigns;
  • promotes cities and towns through an aggressive media and communications program that draws attention to city issues and enhances the national image of local government;
  • provides programs and services that give local leaders the tools and knowledge to better serve their communities;
  • keeps leaders informed of critical issues that affect municipalities and warrant action by local officials;
  • strengthens leadership skills by offering numerous training and education programs;
  • recognizes municipal achievements by gathering and promoting examples of best practices and honoring cities and towns with awards for model programs and initiatives;
  • partners with state leagues to supplement resources and strengthen the voice of local government in the nation's capital and all state capitols; and,
  • provides opportunities for involvement and networking to help city officials seek ideas, share solutions, and find common ground for the future.
