Did you all see the Around The Crown 10K announced last night?  Half the race is *on* 277!  I might run it just for the novelty......as I did a 5K on Lowe's Speedway track once upon a time.  Sep 1.  Info, course map, etc: https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Charlotte/AroundTheCrown10K .  Signup is cheap if you get in early.

I was thinking about paying the $25 just to walk the course so I could snap some skyline shots. How often do you have a chance to set foot on the interstate, besides emergency situations or “peaceful demonstrations”?

Wait, what? What the heck is going on at South Park Mall on Friday?

On Friday, February 15th, all streets around Southpark Mall and Parking deck will be closed due to the NBA All Star game.  Please read the following detours for your route for your weekend commute.

I think there are a few shoe releases and celebrity appearances scheduled. If you've ever been to SouthPark during CIAA or any other large event, you know that the mall gets ridiculous crowded with people shopping and people watching the people who are shopping.

Longtime listener,  18th time poster... I was poking around some other areas of UrbanPlanet and Charlotte seems to be one of, if not, the most active city forum. Does anyone know why we utilize this particular site more than other cities?

Do you think it's because other cities have city specific URLs? I know Winston has Winston-Salem's Tallest Buildings, and Jacksonville, FL has Metro Jacksonville. So that's kind of my assumption - but just find it curious and wasn't sure if anyone had a clear reason for the Charlotte forum's popularity over other cities. Thanks!

I have posted for 3 years but have always had a keen interest in development.  Everytime I would do a Google search on some project Urbanplanet would come up so I finally joined the discussion.  Nashville is very active as is Orlando's.  To lesser degree Raleigh Durham Richmond are active.   But Charlotte is by far the biggest UP market.

Appropriately, I came to this thread to post about how I NEVER go onto City-Data.com's forum anymore, but I did this morning, and it's amazing the kind of attitudes that are tolerated there. This is just a tiny snippet, and not even that toxic (plus, violence is never a laughing matter), but I am often amazed at the tone that people set... and if nothing else, UP can be seen as the antithesis of CD:

The LA Times did a French fries power ranking and the Twitterverse has gone wild.

https://www.latimes.com/food/la-fo-french-fry-rankings-20190212-story.html

For me I put Five Guys at the BOTTOM I don't like wet fries.  I do think McDonalds fries are among the best as are Chick-Fil-a and I love the fries at Red Robin.

As for In N Out I really like them I just always order them extra crispy and they slice the potatoes right in the store what is not to love.    Shake Shack middle of the road they were more like my high school french fries

Let the French Fry Power Rankings War begin!   I am sure this post will get no response.

In full KJ disclosure I was one of the best French fry cooks at the McDonalds in Burke VA always served crispy and neatly put in the paper holder.

I'm failing to see what is wrong with the post or the replies.....

Unless the father decides to put on a cape take up crime fighting in the evening there is really nothing else to do besides move.

People are way too sensitive these days.

No you're right. I've seen some downright vile stuff in the past and that day I was just reaching with whatever was on the first page of the forum.

A study of micropolitan towns. Caveats on research motives, etc. The NC and SC locations are on the prosperous side so their "achievements" may be misunderstood. Cullowhee is a surprise (to me) and perhaps is because of an increase from a low base on incomes and other $$ factors.

Nonetheless, good to see study of small towns and the results of whatever is happening there. Where the real gover'mentin' goes down.

It is a small college town home of Western Carolina Univ which is growing rapidly in a region of bountiful recreation next door to Sylva which is another neat town that is growing too.

WCU grew really fast in the last year after the state lower the tuition rate there and 2 other schools to stimulate growth. well it has worked and more and more people have discovered the area moving from Asheville due to lower prices in Jackson County home of Cullowhee and Sylva.

About ten years ago, I used to get breakfast with 4 other guys my age every Friday at Liberty East. When we turned 25, someone proposed that we all go back to school.  We were all kind of slackers in High School but we all applied at WCU as non-traditional students and I was shocked when we were all accepted! I didn’t go since I had already secured a sweet middle-management job at one of the big banks here, but the other guys DID go. I visited them often and I was really impressed with the campus then. On my way to the casino a few weeks ago, I drove through just to see what was what, and it was way different.

Cullowhee has grown a lot in the last ten years but I was surprised how much it has changed in the five-or-so years since my amigos graduated.
