This important organization calls the area Center City.  Also uses term Urban Core. Uptown appears to be their preferred descriptor for visitors and information and a site search shows "downtown" appears occasionally.

This summer visit a NC state park you have not been to.  I have now been to 28 of them not all but most.  All but a handful are free.  Here is the one I was at this morning Raven Rock State Park south of Fuquay Varina (and Raleigh) a rock cropping overlooking the Cape Fear River the biggest river all in NC.  Very unusual in this part of the state to have this kind of natural view.

My favorites   Mount Mitchell, Mt Jefferson, Jockeys Ridge, Merchants Millpond, Pilot Mtn, Morrow Mtn. Lake Waccamaw

Raven Rock SP east of Sanford south of Fuquay and Raleigh 

Plenty of options close to Charlotte like South Mtns, Lake James in addition to the closer ones.

I was in Pinehurst earlier this year and that is their home territory. Their line runs along the road from Southern Pines to Pinehurst and two of those beauties were on the line one afternoon, sitting pretty.

Random hotel & credit card question.  With the JW Marriott wrapping up, is this property nice enough to add to the luxury options for either Chase or AMEX?  I know Chase currently considers zero Charlotte hotels under their LHRC line.  AMEX has the Ritz, the Ballantyne, and Iveys for their Fine hotels & resorts collection and I believe the Kimpton and Hyatt Centric for their Hotel Collection.  I'm hoping JW be considered for one of the above.  Just wondering bc you receive extra perks for booking one of those hotels and it would be nice to add another Charlotte hotel to the list.  This should be opening up any day I suppose too.

Interesting. Those engines are all over Moore and Montgomery county. I see them almost daily and never realized that they're special.

As off topic as it gets. How many people still like or dislike the new BOA building at legacy union?

I personally don't love it but I think it's unique enough and adds a nice diversity to the southern skyline by the DEC.

IMO, it has horrible street interaction and the plaza is an after thought with cold sterile benches that don't encourage gathering. The retail storefronts on the parking deck look cheap -> unsurprising no tenants have signed on and it sits vacant. At least add some awnings, architectural lighting, better benches, et... anything! Strip malls in Ballantyne and Huntersville get more interesting architecture / places for outdoor seating and gathering. 

LU contrasts to the better street design at Ally Center across the street, which has managed to actually attract multiple retail and restaurant tenants because they see the potential in the layout and interaction with the street along Tryon and Stonewall. LU could redeem itself with better street presence in the vacant parcels, but I won't hold my breath.

I would wait until the buildout of the other parcels to call this a failure.  If residential and hotels are included new life will be on Church Street, right now, Church is a way out of downtown.  Stonewall also is cold there and new life will make changes.

It was just announced recently that Brisbane will host the 2032 Olympics. Wow, they are about the same size as Charlotte! I’m surprised. I wonder if we will ever see Charlotte host or Atlanta again.

Brisbane has twice the land area and three times the population, plus they're on a coast...

And a metric crap-ton of hotels (if you include the Gold Coast), very good transit, and the Australian federal government is pretty good about funding infrastructure. In addition, Sydney offered one of the better examples of how hosting the summer games can be leveraged into long term benefits for the city.

Plus Aussie’s three favorite things are beer, footie and swimming!
