Found a neighborhood today that is new to me, McCrorey Heights. South of Oaklawn, east of the Vest Water Plant and Beatty* Ford Road. Altogether pleasant area and nearly unknown to many of my peers, I would presume. 

 

*Beatty/Beattie/Beatty's/Beatties are variations I have seen. I cannot say which is the most correct. All have been used for a long time and are interchangeable, no distinction about proper spelling 250 years ago.

 

This is a representative home. Some a bit larger, some smaller but nearly all brick, well maintained, gracious lawns. Just right for a family.

Here is a new(er) build home. Corner lot and modern, pleasing  to my eye.

Two new homes coming.

 

This was the most imposing home I saw. 550k$, 3400 sf.

View down Patton Avenue toward the plant. Note sidewalk and curbs and stormwater drains. Well planned.

As a special opportunity, since this is on the rise where the water plant is located, and water plants are ALWAYS on the highest ground around, a few lots and homes here have a view of the top of the skyline even with the leaves on trees. I had never explored this area before.

It's all about qualifications. If you're a highly qualified and competent in your respective field then you'll be fine. It's those who get by in privileges of knowing or being friends with someone but not qualified for the job is who needs to be worried.

Uptown Charlotte isn't what it used to be.  I lived in Charlotte in the '80s when I was a student at UNCC.  One weekend night in 1981 some friends and I decided to drive into Uptown to see what it was all about.  We were all from small NC towns and mostly wanted to see some tall buildings.  The only person we saw on the streets that particular night was a hooker.  Otherwise the streets were dark and quiet.  Fast forward to last week, on Saturday night, when I had just flown into town with plans to meet some friends for dinner at Optimist Hall. 

My friends were still at home in northeast Charlotte when I was leaving the airport and they said they would call me when they left their house.  So I decided to kill a little time and drive around South End.  I wasn't there very long when I got their call at 7:15 PM that they were on their way.  So I immediately started heading towards Optimist Hall.  I was on Tryon Street in South End at that point and decided it would be best just to stay on Tryon Street through Uptown.  I figured I'd zip through Uptown just like I did back in the '80s,  and I would be at Optimist Hall in no time. 

Well I was wrong.  It took me nearly a half hour to get there.  I even had to text my friends to let them know they might reach our destination ahead of me.  On the one hand it was frustrating that it was taking me so long to get through Uptown, but on the other hand I was delighted -- delighted to see a very vibrant scene of hundreds of people on the Uptown sidewalks going to and from restaurants, bars, the theater, and perhaps museums.  There were people dressed to the nines.  Others were casual, some walking, some on scooters.  There were young adults, there were families with kids.  There was all this traffic, just people trying to get to somewhere within Uptown, quite unlike me who was just trying to get through (and out of) Uptown.  It was a wonderful sight to behold and a scene I could not have imagined happening in Charlotte thirty some years ago.  She's come a long way, baby.

that is a good point.  I think people should be willing to go into the office to be seen and I think some who work at home all the time can easily be looked over for promotions and so forth.

After an uncomfortable ten seconds of incomprehension she realizes she must make a reply and says "Parking can sometimes be very difficult and I am sure you did an excellent job."

Not sure as I always park at Whole Foods for up to 2 hours and buy something there and validate.

Bruce Julian, of Bruce Julian Clothier on Selwyn makes the New York Times Sunday:

Bought a suit there. Then to Shops on the Park when Bruce was in charge then out to highway 51, Bought a fine double breasted wool navy blazer there, classic and still have it, and then to his current location. Top choices with quality fabrics, matched for the customer with care. My clothing purchases dropped significantly when I retired so I visit rarely. I have a connection to his wife and in-laws mentioned here.

Father Milton had the same shop on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill for years. Some here may recall it.

If you want the latest satellite imagery of Charlotte, the site "LandViewer" has updated imagery posted weekly. The latest image is from Nov. 19th.

It's not very user friendly but once you figure it out it's a cool site. You no longer have to wait for Google Maps to update their satellite imagery. Here is the link and the most recent image of Charlotte.
