Austin, for a city its size, is just absolutely crazy right now. It's like a mini-Dubai.

I was just in Austin earlier this week. They do have a lot of cranes around downtown, mostly condo/apartment projects, from what I was told. Overall, it seems like a cool place (especially the restaraunt/bar scene, holy crap there are a million unique places), especially if you are single.  Thought the city itself looked a little drab and much dirtier compared to Charlotte.

Its also miserable from May until September. I went to an outdoor wedding there in April and i was a groomsman. It was 92 already and i had to wear a tuxedo outside. UGH

I was actually just talking to my friend that lives there about all the projects. It's interesting because most of their highrises are residences and hotels. VERY few office towers, speaks volumes to their growth and where they can be majorly hurting down the road.

Not worthy of the restaurant or the misc uptown threads, apparently the old Frozen Isle space (next to Chick-Fil-A in the overstreet) and convenience store next to it are being combined into a space for Chicken Salad Chick.  http://www.chickensaladchick.com/

So if you need any, umm, chicken salad, there's that.

Early voting ends at 1pm today! You can go to any precinct in your county, then have a beer for a job well done!

(Tuesday you MUST go to your own registered precinct)

I got the run around when I voted. I was registered In Cleveland but lived in Meck. Luckily I had ID that still showed Cleveland

Wasn't sure where to put this as its been closed for a while so its not really biting the dust so much as it is officially ending an area. Penguin has been evicted, man did they run that place into the ground.

I was watching TV yesterday and a commercial for some drug came on.  The beginning started in front of the Bechtler.  It looked great.  They had the big column in the front.  Very cool.  The commercial ended in Rome at the Coliseum.  Of course there was no mention of Charlotte or Rome for that matter.  Made me miss my old home.

Other than the educated parts of the state, Repubs took care of business in NC last night. I wasn't surprised by anything but it is bittersweet because Hagan was one of the biggest putz's in Washington and a complete waste of space, but Tillis is a lunatic. Just can't win.

No offense to any Republican posters (you can call me a lazy, socialist, hand out pansy for this comment) but im so disappointed because I wanted NC to go blue to show we're progressive and I wanted to see us grouped with the other blue states and not the red ones.

Hopefully 2016 will be a better year.

Oh, my other disappointment: turnout only improved by like .3% from 2010, despite all the headlines about lines and whatnot. Population increase since then makes the actual percentage increase pretty pathetic. Under-30s continue to not show the f*ck up.

If they are anything like me, they have been completely turned off by politics.  The current state of American politics is disgusting.  I've never felt so compelled not to vote (as a side note, I can't anyways, but I still went with my wife to make sure she did).  I used to be gung ho about voting and the importance.  But now it just seems like a big joke that we are all just a part of.  $100m was spent on this senate campaign in NC.  You mean to tell me that either of those people who ran understand the plight (or even care for that matter) about the common man?  Heck no.

I think my generation, while generally positive, just feel trampled by their future prospects and the current state of affairs they are now beginning to inherit.  I don't know if it's so much "we don't want to do anything" but more so "what does it matter, it's too damn late".  As unfortunate as that sounds.

I really can't decide if it's ignorance or just a lack of thoughtfulness, but I hate when people make assertions like this ("other than the educated parts of the state"). Maybe you don't mean to imply that educated people voted for democrats and uneducated people voted for republicans, but that's sure how it sounds. This attitude is a lot of what is wrong with politics in NC and the US as a whole.

Is it not true Hagan won the most educated parts of the state?

Also I was looking at exit polls last night and Hagan won a larger share of the people with college degrees.

Couldn't agree more. I am 26 and used to be very into politics and very well informed, but now, it's just a joke and I feel like the only way to fight back is not voting. It's a double edged sword but we have so little power either way.

and no, thats not what I mean because I am very well educated and am a Republican. A lot of morons vote democrat too (sorry to all those out there, I am not speaking to this forum, but there are idiots on both sides). What I mean is.....generally there are a lot more educated people in Charlotte, Raleigh, etc....than in the middle of nowhere in the state where, sorry to stereotype but its true, the thoughts of "guns guns guns, pro life, screw gay marriage, obama is a terrorist, etc" run wild and free. My hometown state of Ohio is the same way, it is what it is.

So with that being said, yes, generally urban areas vote democrat but a lot of that has to do with minorities as well, point is politics these days are stupid and out of hand and theres no such thing as Red and Blue anymore, it's always a little bit of both and until the US system catches on to that, we are in deep trouble.

I consider myself to be Independent... I used to be Republican but got so fed up with party's ways and inability to move into the 21st century that I'm no longer registered with them. For me, I worry more about future generations, especially our kids. This country will be so far divided, if it isn't already, because of this two party system. It will forever be broken unless some 3rd party, with more central viewpoints can break into the mainstream and get enough votes to make a difference. I know they exist (Libertarian, Green, etc), but no one has really broken through. Until then, this country will trend downward.
