I strongly doubt that The Pinnacle will become the tallest building on this planet, if it is ever built.

Simple Reason: It doesn't include the word "Dubai", Burj Dubai does. If they construct the tallest building in the world, Dubai's smart Marketing specialists are sure to include the word Dubai, so people around the globe make instant associations to this city. Dubai Mall, the world's largest mega-mall points to the same conclusion.

In a Gulf News article published on 21/09/04 Mohammed Alabbar, Emaar chairman, said that: "At present, the tower is designed to be around 800 metres tall, but we can always push that up to 950 metres".

Interesting will be to see whether Samsung Corp, who have been awarded the US$ 1bn contract for the Burj Dubai in Dec'04, will manage to stay within the 1bn contract sum. Note that the construction of the 510m Taipeh101 cost US$ 1.4bn.

U could be right, i have to agree with you from a marketing prospective, however, it would be neat to see both companies compete for the title, the same way Dubai Mall and Mall Of Arabia are competing for the title of the world's largest mall,

however, i think Burj Dubai would be a better representation of what dubai is, and it would never difficult to implement a project like the Pinnacle, especially that some people are a little hesistant now in regards to water front properties, due to the current events that took place recently, (south east asian tsunami, and the mini tsunami that the UAE received a while back)

News just in: Emporis database, has just put The Pinnacle at The Palm Jumeirah on "never built" status.

- I guess that means it will never be build. Have to agree with you that the construction of such a building in such settings would be technically and from a marketing perspective quite tricky.

I have a question, looking from the picture there. I know things have changed with more modern technology but can there be any problems with having such a tall structure stand out with seemingly no other tall structures anywhere in the area? Just seems like it might be hard for it to take the full brunt of the wind with no other structures of decent size nearby.

This building is actually being part of the World's Largest Waterfront Development which will be right past the Palms. This building will be surrounded by other large buildings on the other side. It won't have great density, but it still will have a great skyline.

Okay I see, from the pic it looks like there's nothing else very tall at all around it. I guess I shouldhave known not to put too much into a rendition though.

True, whenever these renderings come out, they usually like to put their building only in the drawing to put an emphasis on that building.
