Southern Diet Frustrates Health Officials

DECATUR, Ga. - Amid a national obesity epidemic and the South's infamous distinction as the "Stroke Belt," health officials have been trying to get diners to flinch, at least a little, at the region's trademark fried and fatty foods.

But nutritionists have found it's hard to teach an old region new tricks. How can Southerners give up delicious staples fried chicken, fried seafood, fried green tomatoes and cornbread slathered in butter? ....

The most interesting thing to me is that when i visit cities out of the south, i seem to see more fried food reastraunts than anywhere else in the country.

Really? I think its about the same everywhere. There's a Wendy's, McDonalds, and Burger King on every corner in the US. The difference lies in the consumer & what they eat.

When I visit cities like Denver, you can literally see the difference in the amount of more healthy looking individuals. Its quite interesting when you pay attention to it all. I also found Toronto to have far fewer overweight individuals then what I find here.

Now Detroit looks pretty hefty... LOL

remember, denver is a mile up. you try weighing 400 lbs and walking in that thinner air :lol:
