This is a new proposed apartment building at 16th and Vine streets.

Here's the link, sorry I have no idea how we are supposed to post pics anymore.

1601 Vine

It looks like this project might be a go soon. It seems to have turned from apartments to condos with some retail. It is in the 40 story range.

Just found this topic on Philly Developments.

I live three blocks from this new plan for New Market.

The devloper SANT wants a 40 story tower...Society Hill is up in arms.

This is the property SANT just bought for $10 million from Will Smith.

The original site of his planed 15 story W hotel. Smith originally

bought the site for $3 million.

It was presented to Society Hill residents on April 10.

I apologize, I don't know how to post a photo but if somebody is interested they

can post a photo. You go to this link: http://www.daroffdesign.com/

on the top right hand corner it says New Market. Unfortunately

it is a pdf document but it gives a lot of detailed info and various versions

of the tower as you scroll down.

Great reading about all the developments and the great stuff going on in our sister

city of Pittsburgh. Thanks.

Grrr, that makes me mad! That building won't be any taller than the Society Hill Towers. I don't know why people in Philly are so anti-development that they instinctively fight EVERYTHING. There's that one guy who is preparing to donate 100K for that fight. Its like "Hey buddy, get a life!". Philly is lucky to be one of the few cities that is getting high rise condo interest up the @ss and it really p!sses me off that the Luddites intend to fight every single one of them tooth and nail.

1441 chestnut street, a 50 story tower on chestnut street.  I think this would be the tallest residential tower in center city.  It's been approved but is seeing resistance from the owner of the lot directly next to it.  That owner wants to build a 57 story residential tower in conjuction with the the Ritz carlton hotel.  Critics have called for the owners to build one base for the two towers.  This would eliminate the need for two parking enterances and such.  It will be interesting to see the outcome.

It appears the 57 story tower is now a go. It will be cut short to get around the other owners objections.

That tower looks great, even if it has to be compromised some.  Great addition to the Philly skyline

The whole fiasco at 15th + Chestnut has left a bad taste in my mouth. I will hate this tower forever. That is if it ever gets built.

Any news on the redevelopment of the atrocious Adam's Mark on City Avenue?  I had thought it would have met its end with plastic explosives by now.  Target can't possibly be saving that awful building?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Pat Croce (sp?) of former sixers fame had wanted to buy the site from target far a casino. I read a story somewhere recently that the plan had fallen through because target will not part with the property. I'll try to locate the article.

Any pics of the Adam's Mark?

Oh another quick aside . . . I see that the Mellon Bank Tower is still "Mellon Bank" although they are more a brokerage/processor now then a true bank. Any idea on if the name of the tower has been changed to "Mellon Financial"?

Thanks.

Well to tell, I used to live in New Jersey side of Philadelphia when I grew up, and moved to Virginia when I was 12. I can tell that walking in Philadelphia at night was scary - I never spent a single night in the Old City with all of the rundown buildings, drugs, crime and all that stuff. Now that Philadelphia is changing itself, I am looking to spend some nights in the city in the near future. I am happy to hear that Philadelphia is booming right now. Back then I used to see all of their old buildings in dire need of repair and closed and slated for demolition. Perhaps I can live in a condo in the Old City when I finish Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA and get a civil engineering job in Philly.

Condo in Old City???? Be prepared to fork out 500K+, that is if you are able to land one before it gets snapped up. Old City is in heavy demand right now. They have rowhomes around Girard Ave. already going for 300K+ (for those not in the know, Girard is a few miles north of Old City and jsut 5 years ago was seen as definite "no go" territory).
