I am in complete agreement that there are better things to spend the energy on. Especially if most of this lighting is by the city and not the building owners. People in the neighborhoods deserve to have their streets lit before our skyscrapers. If this is done by the building owners though i hope they decide that it is worth the investment to make their buildings and the city look much nicer.

I'm sure it wouldn't look like that, and I'm glad. That would be incredibly tacky and garrish. Maybe for one night, but that's it.

I agree. That building is just screaming to be lit up at the top. I think with its design it would instantly become the focal point of the skyline at night if it were lit properly.

Speaking of lights...the top of the Water Board Building was lit up when I was downtown tonight. The David Stott lights have been on almost every night recently. The top 1/3 of the Penobscot lights are still out, unfortunately.

Its very well possible. I saw on the news the other families of people who are buried in that cemetary with her and its the whos who of early Detroit movers and shakers. The Fords Dodges and Strohs are all buried there.

I dont understand why they would choose Tiger Stadium. Its an outdoor venue that they want to use in the middle of feb. I would think they could use Cobo arena or something like that. Somewhere where people are gonna wanna mingle and drink alcohol.

I thought TS was starting to get run down inside anyway. I just don't see it working without a lot of work. Cobo would be easier, but I can pretty much guarantee that it's already all booked up for that weekend.

It seems there there would be plenty of other places that would work? A better place that first popped into my mind was Lafayette Central Park. Although I dont really know what is necessary or required for the event.

I know Cobo is hosting the NFL experience but that doesnt take up all the space they have available there. Maybe im wrong but i just dont think TS is a good venue to use for a party that is supposed to impress.

I thought I'd share some information I recieved on what could be a pretty prominent development coming up...

I've been interested in Detroit church architecture for awhile now, and have been compiling pieces of information here and there. Anyway, I wrote The Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Paul up on the 4000 block of Woodward. I had heard that the cathedral has remained unfinished for years, after the construction on the main building wrapped up in the early 1900's. I was informed that the church is once again working with some architects on a 170' belfry they've been trying to building ever since the original completion. Everything is preliminary, but this could be another landmark for Midtown Detroit.

I saw part of it on CNN. I caught the Madison Lennox in one of the shots. I think it shows zero class but what i do like is how quick the organization is to apologize and the fact they will be taking out full page adds in the News and Free Press to show how sorry they are.
