What's This!? They want to tax internet use? According to the news this morning there was suppose to be a tax going into effect on Nov 1 for internet usage with both federal and state taxes applied. First I've heard of this. But what does this mean. ISP's or users?

there was no tax that was supposed to take effect, the ban would have ended allowing the gov't to tax the internet (which i think would've been purchases on the internet, like sales tax). the house voted to extend the ban another 4 years (because the senate wouldn't go for a permanent ban apparently).

Thanks for the info. There are times when I buy something on the internet that the merchant will charge me the RI tax rate. I know that it's a state law, but not all retailers apply it.

it depends on the merchant. i believe if they have a store in RI, they have to charge the tax.
